Okay its P not B 38
« on: March 04, 2014, 03:11:05 PM »
So i cant believe im feeling the need as strong as i am but...
In the past tour i realized with my planes of choice i can live for the most part if i choose to.
So i decided to move on to different planes or a plane from my comfort zone.

So in the last two days i have flown everything under the sun and in that list was the 38,Full disclosing (I was never a big 38 fan) I thought of it as a whole lota  target.
But after i got in and realized a few things
1 I love American birds and this IS one very much so aside from the easy compression,  2 its fast with good power up high and down low,so it can be a multiple purpose hunter   3 It can easily out turn the fast planes and out power the turners.

I know there are some real differences from one version to another ,but know not what they are,and i know like most birds there are tricks to it that one can teach.

So im looking for a well advanced 38 stick to maybe wing up some time if anyone would be willing. :aok

Compressibility is one of the easiest things to avoid in the P-38, if you've entered into a compressibility state then you've screwed up.  That's my tip of the day.

To be successful in the 38 you need to become a very, very good picker.  Keep others around you as a shield of sorts so they can keep the wolfs away since the 38 is about the best piece of meat in game.  Delirium works this about as well as it can be done.  Watch Lazer as well.

Not that you can't get a lot of kills in the 38 as a loner.  You will just be killed a lot without friendly support in hot areas.  The 38 is almost always everyone's first choice in targets.   Having as many as eight on your tail at once is common if you don't have friendly skies to zoom back too.  Fun though.

P-38 has some great tools to work with when the numbers are low, but in the furball its just to damn big and eye catching to be useful for anything other than strict BmZ. In all honestly I feel this way about most American fighters, via f4u,p47,f6f,p51, However for some reason people just want to shoot at a p-38 more.

I'm not to familiar with the p-38, but I know several guys who a get into that plane and seem completely unstoppable.

I usually get 3-5 kills per sortie in the P-38J flying alone as I normally don't fly with a wingman.  Quite frankly, I would suggest those wanting to learn the P-38 not take any advice that you've given because it's not good advice.

Compressibility and compressing it into a Knight hangar, of which the latter seems like one of the easiest things for a Bishop to do.         :devil

I'm with Ack-Ack on this what Randy and some of these other have said is not true, Get with him, any of the 80th Head Hunters or others who run the 38 a lot they will in just a few minutes give you lots of info.

Oh and Sunka folks always make fun of the 38 because its such a large airframe as a fighter and they call it a bomber hence the "B"-38 vs. "P"-38 Its a great a/c and when flown right is just as dangerous if not more so than Hogs, ponys and Jugs. and 109s save the K shouldn't have many chances when flown to strengths.

Of course Ack correct me if I'm wrong in any regard you're the 38 driver here so far.

No offense but this is the exact opposite of what these guys do.  Id put these gents ACM against most anyone in the game....in whatever choice of ride the adversary wants...at any alt with equal E states

Note I did not question a 38s ability against a 1v1 type situation.  It is in a crowd that picking and retreat to your support is the way to go.

Picking is not a dirty word.  Everybody does it.

Picking can be done with efficiency with most if not all birds (to a point). But its not necessarily the best way to learn to "Dogfight" em.

No, you don't have to be a picker to score kills. However, you need to be aware that the P38 often garners more attention than any other aircraft. Depending on my mood, I get down and dirty and fight multiples, or fly smart as my 38 always draws the cons towards me.

Couple nights ago was a good example, as I ended up fighting 5 at a time. Not because I had a chance in heck of success, entering the fight below the enemy cons, but because I wanted to see how many I could kill before I died (3 dead, 1 damaged was the result). Later, I flew smart and had a bunch of 1v1s which I truly enjoyed. If the fight is more a test of SA than ACM, and I've experienced a few gangs taking me down, I have no trouble adapting the situation.

Fly with me for a night, I'll show you how it goes.  :salute
