So many great firsts.  That's why I hope there is a new series soon, to break into new Frontiers, just like the characters on the show do. 

I'm re watching Firefly thanks to this thread, probably for the dozenth time, and I always get something new from it, every time.  Fantastic series.  I think I'll start on Farscape next week again.  Begin on disability, this is the only advantage, having unlimited time to revisit old things.

So if I was a noob and wanted to watch Firefly for the first time, would I watch it in production order or in order of airing? Discuss.

RPM if you watch it from Netflix or from the DVD's, they have it in the order it "should" have been, not the original airing, at least that's how I understand it.  There is debate about this online, and below I'll list the two.  The first is the "dvd" list, the second the production code list.  Both are far better than the original "aired" version, and it's the last few episodes that is the difference between them.

The original "aired" list was very screwed up, also there was a huge time gap between the final few episodes, which never even aired in the USA until 2005 or so.

The "die hard" fan list:

Episodes 1-10 as per previous list/dvds.  Then 11: Heart of Gold, 12: Objects in Space, 13: Trash, 14: The Message.  This is technically according to Joss Whedon and others the order for the correct chronology within the show.


IMO you can watch it either way and still get pretty much the same thing out of it.  If you haven't watched it yet, do yourself a big favor, and do so ASAP, followed by the film if you haven't seen it, or even if you have.  It'll put a smile on your face.

That brings up an interesting point RPM.  The trades today had a story about Fox cancelling over a dozen programs.  I think we can all agree that bringing some type of Firefly show back, set in that universe, would certainly be more successful than the crap they just canned.  Why they haven't done so is beyond me.  Nathan Fillion and several other key actors have categorically stated they would drop everything to come back.  Even with contractual obligations, it could be worked out I'm sure.

There have been very few programs of only 13 episodes that have resonated so strongly with SO many fans such a long time after it initially aired.  The film is widely considered one of the better sci-fi films done as well.  I know if I was an exec at Fox I would vigorously pursue getting something Firefly related back on the air.

They actually do care about content. That's why they cancelled Firefly... It wasn't compatible with Fox's corporate image.
