Perk points for 88 battery
« on: April 05, 2014, 12:33:24 PM »
I wish I could use my fighter perk points to get ,  say 3-5.  88 flak guns . Making bombing a little more damaging and flak a touch more realistic over enemy territory.  While not impossible,  it is tough to hit bombers with one gun. Maybe decrease the lethality of hits and make more minor damage occur.

Fun knowing I might shoot an engine or two out,  and fun for bomber pilot who now has to manage bomber back with minor damage.

As it stands now, it seems my flak hits generally either miss or make stuff explode.

In the past I've asked for the ability to earn perks while in a Gun, Ship or Field position. However, after some reflection on the subject I see why HTC didn't do that.  They want to promote combat in planes and ground warfare, not in gun positions. They are simply tools for defending a base, and are quite easy to get kills in.. you just need to know what you are doing.

It isn't difficult at all to hit planes at 5k-8k if you know the trajectory and have good anticipation skills.   Simply practice, and you will get better.
If we have something to show we will & do post shots, if we have nothing new to show we don't.

This isn't about my gunnery skills.  More about lack of realistic flak over targets and having the chance to manage minor damage in bombers .  I would get in them a ton more if wings and tails didn't fall off them from damage.
I can see the point of keeping the focus on planes And tanks.

If HTC was to give the high speed gear rotation speed instead of the low speed gearing as it is programmed now. This would help in being able to track aircraft.

I see Jed's point. It's not about making hiding in a manned gun easier. He just wants to make the damage done by 88's able to do the same thing bullets can do to an aircraft, by decreasing the sudden lethality. Such as fuel leaks, engine oil problems, or even gunners taken out by the shrapnel of the exploding shell. His intention isn't to increase the number of players who use guns, just to stop 88's from either missing aircraft, or suddenly blowing them up.

Why not perks for ALL the manned guns?

Might just see them used more and by better shots.

I will side with lyric on this.  He has been a very solid source of information on these things, and if the 88's are modeled incorrectly, it is my hope HiTech will fix it. :aok

One thing I'd like to note, it is to my understanding that the 88 Flak-batteries consisted of 3+ guns.  I'd love to have control of this, maybe if they were deployed around strategic targets. :)

As for the OP, I'd have to say no.  I've nailed my fair share of enemy bombers with the 88.  Surprisingly, it can takes a few hits to bring them down unless you manage a critical hit.  Personally, most of the bombers I brought down were do to a puff near the cockpit.  I've had it more than a few times, bombers going away with smoking engines and fuel leaks.  Usually it's these guys that take defensive action against the 88's, readjusting their course and/or altitude.

-1 to perked AA guns, but there are a few things I'd like to see.

1) I'd like to see mannable flak batteries at the strat and HQ along with the current AI ack.
2) I'd like to see a useable sight and ranging system to tackle the high-alt aircraft running 20-30k. as it is now shooting down buffs at an alt of 12k is about my max range (my record is currently D6.4k on a lancaster). This doesn't touch what the flak 88 is capable of.

I don't have a problem getting shot down by ack and i find gunning enjoyable when in a pinch. Its simply meant to be a point defense. Sure, if i see an enemy group coming with time to spare I'll up a plane to intercept. But when they're on top your field and you're sitting on the ground, would you really be able to intercept them before they make the drop? Of course not. AA guns are meant for point defense over fields and strats; if you don't like it then don't fly over them.

All you need to know.

I've seen that several times here. Now we just need to figure out how that can be implemented into the game in practical manner.

u wouldn't want to go after a bish base again if he got three guns per 88 pit...he already knocks 5 guys out before they get irritated enough and take the 88s down. He got me at ~10K one time - poof    :furious

He kills ftrs, doesn't aim at the bombers from what I see

no, plz god no
