HT, got some free time?
« on: April 20, 2014, 09:19:48 PM »
People keep saying the game is dead.  While it seems true that it's no longer where it was at it's peak the decline of AH has been discussed since the very beginning.  I've compiled a partial list of things people have attributed the decline of AH to over the years (I'm sure I missed a lot):

Ack Runners
Advertising
Bomb and Bailers
Bomb****s
Channel 200
"Cheaters"
Chess Piece Loyalty
Collision Model
Economy
ENY
Free Trial Period
Furballers
Game Changes
Graphics
GV's
HOers
Hordes
Lack of Trainers
Learning Curve
Loss of Head to Head Arenas
Maps Too Big
Maps Too Small
Marketing
Mean Players
Milk Runners
Number of Countries
Real Life
Rubber Bullets
Side Switch Times
Spawn Campers
Spies
Subscription Price
Timid Players
Travel Time to a Fight
Vulchers
War Winners
Wife Ack

Feel free to add to the list.

I just have to shake my head every time I see another analysis of the decline of AH.  It's a wonder anyone even plays.

And every time we get the inevitable "HT, I demand a fix or I'm taking my ball and going!" or at least a "The end is near" prediction.  In fact, the end has been near for about a dozen years now which begs the question; HT, WTF have you been doing all this time?

jk HT.

Maybe if people would stop predicting the end of the game and just go have fun with it as it is it would become contagious, drawing more in to see what the excitement is all about.  If I came to these BBs thinking about joining today or coming back into the game after an absence I might go look elsewhere.

Sure there's things that can be fixed, changed or added.  That's what the wishlist, bug reports and aircraft and vehicle forums are for.

In many ways the game is what we make of it.  How about we make the best of it instead of the worst?

[/soapbox]

I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Disagree.  Discussion about things that can be changed is for the general discussion.  And if there are things that can be changed, fixed, or "calibrated", if it can be agreed upon that a certain change would make a more enjoyable gaming experience for a good percentage of the player base, wouldn't that be a discussion worthy of having?

As for, "the game being what you make of it", yeah...okay I guess, but it's difficult to make a pizza without cheese and tomato sauce if you catch my drift.

I believe that is covered under "switch side time" he already listed.

Is it ack runners?  I think not.  It is the de-acking of a field then cap it shooting anyone taking off with no attempt for a field capture.  Ack hugging is a result not a cause.

Add, the current number of players can't support three countries.

I'm guessing that HTC has a pretty good grasp of what's needed to keep the game growing and profitable. Recoding the graphx engine is the platform on which the rest will follow. Give it time folks; Dale's been around long enough to know what works, and what doesn't in the long run.

If the game were growing, a lot of the complaints would be either non existent or not such a big deal.  Hopefully the graphics update will spark some interest and we'll see numbers increase.

In the meantime though, the side switch timer should be halved as a reasonable compromise.

Ack Runners -  player controlled
Advertising - most likely in the future
Bomb and Bailers  - player controlled
Bomb****s - player controlled
Channel 200 - comedy central, can't get rid of it  :D
"Cheaters" - more like whiners
Chess Piece Loyalty - player controlled
Collision Model - I think it's fine..
Economy - World problem  :lol
ENY - Works fine, fly a higher ENY ride
Free Trial Period - Window shoppers should get a chance too.
Furballers - player controlled
Game Changes -
Graphics - Getting er done.
GV's - Planes.. there I said it.
HOers - player controlled
Hordes - player controlled
Lack of Trainers - I know BigRat and Morfiend, who are almost always in the TA.
Learning Curve - Makes it challenging, and that much more of a reward when you do something productive.
Loss of Head to Head Arenas - +1
Maps Too Big - Agreed
Maps Too Small - Can't have your cake and eat it too.  :D
Marketing - Yup. Probably will be addressed after graphics update
Mean Players - Bunch of whiny babies. HTC should send em to the corner.
Milk Runners - Need defensive fighters.
Number of Countries - 3 is perfect
Real Life - I don't play it, subscription is too high.
Rubber Bullets - Lag, it definitely isn't your friend.
Side Switch Times - Agreed, should be lowered.
Spawn Campers - player controlled
Spies - player controlled
Subscription Price - HTC has to eat too.
Timid Players -  :lol
Travel Time to a Fight - Well, it was hours in real life, but I do agree the travel time seems to be long for a few min (sometimes second) fight.
Vulchers - player controlled
War Winners -  :lol
Wife Ack - BAM BAM,  :joystick:

Feel free to add to the list.

Listed my points. In full humor  :D

Be happy you can play, I've been stuck in the hangar since New Years because of my old computer dying on me (turned 16). And it will inevitable be a few more weeks before i can even think of getting a new one  :cry

Dunno. My solution to the ever increasing number of ack huggers has become simply to de ack. then cap.

You wanna insist on fighting over your own base? Ok. We can fight over your own base.

Though I often find the ack runners tend ot not up anymore once they dont have their ack to run to after a single failed pass and HO attempt

We have lots and lots of cheese and tomato sauce, and everything else we need.  Just too many chefs having a food fight with the ingredients.

I look at that list and see them (or at least, the non-jokey items) as simply contributing factors to the main problem - which is NOT ENOUGH PLAYERS
