motherboard going bad

first I noticed my computer wont keep the time. I will fix it when restarts it is always wrong.  then my throttle on my stick stopped being recognized at all.  I can see the lights on the throttle dash but nothing else.  tried to move the usb connections to a different one, same results.  now my sentinel mouse is not recognized it works but the program itself doesnt recognize it.  I tried reinstalling the drivers but it still isnt recognized.

I changed the battery and look at the motherboard it has no signs of any damage.  capacitors look normal.  anything else I should be looking at?

If it won't keep the time then the bios battery probably needs replacing.  It's a little flat circle battery somewhere on the mobo.  Try replacing that first, and then check all your bios settings to make sure they're correct.  Maybe even do a hard bios reset with the bios reset jumper, then go into bios and make any necessary changes to enable USB features and other mobo options, as required.

What eagl said. Change the battery (if I read correctly, you've already done that), hard reset the bios with the jumper. Start the bios settings by choosing the safe settings, reboot, choose the optimal settings, reboot. After that you should have a clean starting point for any settings you'd like to do.

If that won't help, try with another power supply.

try changing out the battery for the mother board. I had a friend have the same issue and he changed out the battery and the problem was fixed.

anyway I just replaced the battery on the mobo last week.  I did reset the bios which also had been re-setted when I changed the battery.  no change.  my throttle still doesnt get recognized and while the mouse does work, it doesnt get recognized by its own software.

the funny thing about the mouse is that all the buttons work as I had originally set them up with wot.  but I cannot change the speed using their software, only thru windows itself.


I guess I could try to reinstall windows then as a last attemp get a new mobo.

This probably won't be much help to ya, but I know with my mouse and joystick I had to make sure I didn't use the USB 3.0 ports as they didn't like it at all.

will do.   That hd is about 6 years old.  I actually dropped it when I first bought it and part of the plastic casing is broken.

What do you mean, you connect 9 old drives or you boot from the 1 old drive again? If the old drive still has the problems your windows installation on that drive has got corrupt by malware or something else.

Not sure where that number 9 came from.    my guess is that it happened when mad cats released the new drivers for saitek hardware.   something got corrupted somewhere and created a conflict with my mouse also.

sorry I was replying using my phone before.  I have 2 "old" hd's.  a 1tb hitachi which I already mentioned I dropped and broke a piece of casing when it was brand new and a wd black 750gigs which I got about a year later.  both are at least 4 or 5 years old never had a problem.  the wd drive I put in the closet about a year ago when I was cleaning up my computer and forgot to add it after I closed the case.  it just had mostly fraps ah movies and ah films and some songs.  so it wasnt a big deal.


when I had problems with my mouse and throttle the first thing I noticed was the time wasnt right.  I had to fix it every time.  I changed the battery and that fixed the time issue.  but at the same time there was an update to the saitek throttle which is now owned by mad catz.  I believe this driver update is what messed up everything.  I tried everything I could from deleting drivers and manually check registry for old saitek entries, blah, blah, blah but nothing would make a difference.  my throttle or mouse werent recognized.

since at the same time I also tore the tendons on my left ankle I really didnt care much since I couldnt use my pedals anymore.  it's when I got the x-55 rhino set that really made a difference as the throttle wasnt being recognized either.  the joystick worked fine.

I pulled out the hd drive I had in my closet and installed windows on it and the throttle and mouse were recognized with no issues.  a week later is when I got my new ssd installed windows and again had no problems and havent had any since.

I did a disk check for the Hitachi hd and found no errors in it, which leads me to believe that after the madcatz drivers update something got corrupted somewhere.  I am not sure if the dying battery caused it or the drivers themselves or just pure luck.

either way it doesnt matter as it looks like my mobo is fine.  it's just one of those things that drives you crazy because you dont know what really happened.  oh well, life is like that.

Hard disks can have errors that don't show in tests. A friend told me about one that passed every test he made until he found one which could determine an error. A customer of mine had instability problems which he believed to be hard disk related. I checked the disk more than once with more than one manufacturer's tests and fixed the issues. Within a week he'd come back with the same symptoms. After a couple of repeats I finally cloned the disk to a new one and lo and behold, the problems were gone! Must have been some kind of a bad joint somewhere.
