So i operate the heavy duty compressors where i work. keep in mind i like to keep professional on the job to a extent. The byproduct of draining water is compressor oil and oil from changing the engine side of it. So about every month i have 2-4 liters of hazardous waste. I let both bosses know as i try to be a professional about disposing it. But being told to dump it in the porta potty is not what i was expecting  i mean comon iv worked there and seen bosses come and go and i dont appreciate being asked to do that. Guess that's why im schooling for a more professional industry  Have any of you been asked to do something by higher up you knew was dumb and wrong? Im still addressing the situation.

Kinda worrisome that you feel compelled to seek advice on this moral dilemma in a forum like this. Seems like something you should be able to work out without input from these quarters.

Pep Boys ( or you local equivalent) usually takes used oil.

Glad you thought of this while dumping waste oil into the port-o-potty and then only God knows where into the environment , after that.

Even better that you put it in writing.

The EPA loves things like this.

Good luck.  If they (the EPA) ever finds out, the bosses will point their fingers at you.

Eh, he's in a real tough spot. He KNOWS it's wrong, and clearly doesn't want to do it, but I'm pretty sure he has bills to pay, and cannot afford to lose his job for complaining to the higher ups or blowing the whistle just yet.

There is right, and there is wrong.  The OP clearly knows what is right. 

Do the right thing. 

I believe the right thing is to refuse to break the law for your employer.

The very worse that can happen is you get fired from a place that does the wrong thing.

Then you will certainly have choices to make, many of them.

If that call were traced, and a public phone was used, all they would be able to tell is where the call originated. Not who made the call. Is that an option for you? If so, I would make the call immediately.

The company is liable for what employees do, but the employee will ultimately be held responsible.

At my last job one of my bosses told me to dump a couple of gallons of expired catalyst outside on the ground... The catalyst is extremely poisonous and is supposed to mixed with resin so the two can harden and be thrown out.

I can recall on numerous occasions asked to do what you would say are shady things, I just say right up front I ain't gonna do it if its going to break any laws.     Where do you normally dispose of that product ?

before it wasn't even my problem and my other boss ie owner of machinery would dispose of it. How he did so I'm not sure. It would drain to a bucket and he would usually take it from there. Lately he hasn't come down often enough to do so. Usually the two bosses communicate so I'm questioning if hes making the call for that or not. Regardless I'm going to get to the bottom of it next time I'm working

Skyguns I am assuming that you are in the USA; if so then you can do a little research on liquid hazardous waste removal companies. In one of my last jobs we had a fair amount of paint waste that we sprayed out of pressurized paint pots using Xylene as the cleaning fluid. One day the EPA showed up because our neighboring company had gotten some paint residue on one of the owners black cars. He asked out manager to get it repainted and when we sent it to get repainted it got reported to the EPA. We paid a hefty fine and I was tasked with finding a liquid paint waste removal company that came around and collected 55 gallon drums of the material each month and charged us for a disposal and transportation.

2-4 liters of oil, maybe take it to an auto shop or parts store might have a disposal option. Then take it up again with your employer, hopefully they will see the folly of their ways.
