The thought, and the action.  That was Shifty's point.  Very easy to fly a memorial flight in AH.  More difficult to actually get off one's butt and do something.

I got his point. What level of difficulty do you find acceptable?

I'll never understand how people think a cartoon airplane formation honors people that died in real wars.
If you want to honor them do something real in their honor. Like take gifts to a VA hospital or take
flags and place them on the graves of veterans. Or do something for your community in their honor.
Like organizing a park cleanup or cematary cleanup. Sitting on your arse playing the same game you
play day after day but saying your doing it for them on this one day seems a bit hollow and a cop out to me.

As a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom (03-04) I agree with Shifty.....    Now all you naysayers look at his sig line and See that quote is from his SON.

I got his point. What level of difficulty do you find acceptable?

IE something that requires you to go out of your way...... not something you do anyway on a regular basis. Remember most of us Military or Ex-Military guys look on the rest of the world as lazy slobs with poor work ethics.

What naysayers? Coalcat is organizing an event for Memorial day.  Do you really need to complain about that when so many people just consider it a day off from work?

I think it's best to do this somewhere other than the MA in order to avoid interference and disruption.

Yes, as many of us are plotting to attack your formation with our ME-262s.  :D

Of course there are, after all its a game where the point is to shoot down cartoon airplanes.

The original post contains vieled challenges to interfere and referring to those that do as A-holes.
If the true intent of this exercise is to honor the fallen.. It is already lost in sophomoric drama.
That is why in my opinion an on-line computer airplane game is no place to honor actual
heroes. All the attention is on the perceived good guys and bad guys of the cartoon sortie.
It says look at us and what we're doing way more than it says thank you for your sacrifices to the
Soldier Sailors Airmen and Marines in graves across the globe.

However these very people in those graves paid for all of us to have our opinions and the freedom to express ourselves.
So good luck with your memorial flight. I do hope you'll at least consider moving it to the TA where it cannot be attacked.
That way you don't lose the message of your memorial in the drama of a cartoon airplane game. The men in those graves
deserve better.

Good Luck.   :aok

For me a simple salute and a sincere "thanks for a job well done" post here on the bbs would be more welcome than a flight in the MA, given the type of responses in the past. Idk, just my .02 cents worth.

On Memorial Day I am planing a cross-team B29 flight to honor those who have given their lives to protect the US and many other countries and their freedoms. If you are willing to take part in this flight, take up a B29, single B29 or a formation with a metallic skin or a P51D, with a metallic skin as well. For anyone wishing to join, the VOX will be 234 and we will meet up near the crater at 5PM EST, if we are still on craterMA. And for those who want to be A-holes and try and kill us, may the escorts and the guns of many B29s make your death swift!

Memorial Day 2 Years ago.  I am not knocking Coalcat -  his heart is in the right place.  But I do want to share these images with you.

My Great Uncle Oscar was 18 years old when he died close to Verdun in 1918 fighting under Pershing.  My father, now 83, never met the man but heard many stories about him from my Grandfather (who also fought there).  My grandfather made it back but never knew what happened to his younger brother.

My dad joined me for my retirement in 2011 and I took him to Normandy.  On the way back, we hit 3 ABM memorial battlefield/cemeteries and, by chance, we found Uncle Oscar's grave.

Good luck.

I'd join you, but I fear I must be at work that day.

Occasionally they work, but "non combat" memorial flights routinely do not end up well in the MA. You simply can not expect people to approach one guns cold. Because...

- Few players do bother with these forums at all, so they don't know about it
- MA communications are very chaotic, often there are many misinformations for every correct one being broadcast on the radio text channels "it's a memorial fight" "no, it's not" "they shot at me". Also many (most?) players aren't tuned to CH200 were the mission guys may try to clear things up.
- Lot's of players from all over the world may not even know what this thing is about or that there's a special day at that date. They also might simply not have a command of the English language to understand what's going on at all. They may even not care if they do, because they may see things a tad differently for various reasons...
- It only needs one shot being fired ad mayhem can ensue

So it's a very bad idea to go to the MA and expect anyone to stand aside while you cross into hostile territory. If an air display is what you have in mind, the MA is not your place. If you still do, accept that you may (and probably will) be shot at.
If you still point fingers on others after that, it's pointing in the wrong direction. ;)

Speaking from this experience... as far as I am concerned: If it's red, it's dead. (Unless it kills me first  ;))
