Occasionally they work, but "non combat" memorial flights routinely do not end up well in the MA. You simply can not expect people to approach one guns cold. Because...
- Few players do bother with these forums at all, so they don't know about it
- MA communications are very chaotic, often there are many misinformations for every correct one being broadcast on the radio text channels "it's a memorial fight" "no, it's not" "they shot at me". Also many (most?) players aren't tuned to CH200 were the mission guys may try to clear things up.
- Lot's of players from all over the world may not even know what this thing is about or that there's a special day at that date. They also might simply not have a command of the English language to understand what's going on at all. They may even not care if they do, because they may see things a tad differently for various reasons...
- It only needs one shot being fired ad mayhem can ensue
So it's a very bad idea to go to the MA and expect anyone to stand aside while you cross into hostile territory. If an air display is what you have in mind, the MA is not your place. If you still do, accept that you may (and probably will) be shot at.
If you still point fingers on others after that, it's pointing in the wrong direction.

Speaking from this experience... as far as I am concerned: If it's red, it's dead. (Unless it kills me first
