IAR 80
« on: May 27, 2014, 05:13:38 PM »
The IAR 80 was an indigenous Romanian fighter of WWII, serving as their primary fighter from 1941 to 1944, when they began using the 109G-6.

The only difference between the 80 and the 81 was the addition of a hinged bomb cradle for use as a dive bomber.

IAR 80A/81: armed with 6 7.62mm FN machine guns (license built browning .30 cals) with 500rpg, and was able to reach a top speed of 337mph.

IAR 80B/81A: Had a pair of 13.2mm FN machine guns added in a lengthened wing.

IAR 80C/81B had a pair of MGFF/M's in the wing in an effort to increase firepower.

IAR 81C/80M was ordered as a dive bomber with a pair of MG 151's in the wings, totaling 2 MG 151's and 4 7.62mm FN machine guns. However, as the Germans had released the Ju-87 for Romanian use, the bomb racks were removed, and delivered as what would become known as the IAR 80M. Top listed speed is 347mph.

It would be an interesting addition to the game, adding an entirely new airframe, representing an entirely new country, and my greatgrandfather's homeland.

It would be a good plane in the MW arena and should be able to hold its own at low altitudes in the LW arena.

Along with the J2M they're top two I'd love to see added to the game.

I remember the first time I heard of it, Panzer General. I thought that was cool, at the time I'd only heard of Mustangs, 109s, Spitfires, etc...

 :aok

Hopefully Floob's wrong and we'll see it someday.
They're casting their bait over there, see?

I just wish Germany had licenced the DB605 to the Romanians as they had done with Italy. It could really have benefited from 500 more horsepower.

But even so, I really do hope HTC adds this sometime in the near future. Adding diversity would benefit us more than another 109 or spitfire.

You could make the same argument for d520 or ms406...

For Waffle,

The IAR80 used a modified license built Barr&Stroud MKII gunsight. The wingspan and range dials were recalibrated for meters while a custom blue sun shade was added with a 100mph ring and dot etched into it.

Not everybody who has a grasp of the obvious works for HTC. I'll dig this post up in five years just to reply "I told ya so." Just for you Lucifer. You may be a hottie but your satanic wizardry has failed you this time.
