Since I can't play on a regular basis, fun for me is getting a chance to log on and help with a base taking our trying a new plane or help a squaddie return to base. Score or winning the map is not very important to me, participating is.

Well that was a mistake. Im sorry. Still, it wasnt namecalling or anything.

I can vouch for this, having seen DeBrody engage in name-calling. This was pretty mild. Indeed, I don't think he reserves much venom for those seeking to avoid death. 200 squawkers and chest-thumpers, otoh...

In a different world, we could have that discussion but, alas, not here. Regardless, I enjoyed "that thread" immensely, though it may not have been the model of maturity nor of benefit to "the enterprise", I sort of "get" everybody's angle in the matter and don't see much wrong with any of it.

It's like I say, sport is drama for men.

The dogfight is fun, providing it's not a wham-bam kind of deal, but more of a protracted battle. It's especially kewl when dissimilar aircraft are involved, ideally 2 on 2 or so... It's fun using my 109 to harry 3 or 4 mindless Juggies from above (duuuuh, why cant I git him?). One of the 68 boys and I had a recent battle against a 39 and Jug. It was far more interesting that way- with a 2 0n 2 mix.. Furballs are okay but its kind of like Carnival in Salvador, Br: too many opportunities for bad things to happen. Hence, I always go out looking for a small red dar bar at an undefended base...

I like to fight. If anyone recognizes my call sign then im doing something right. 2 v1 3v1 sometimes I co.e out ahead other times a squadie has to leave his fight and help lol. But for the most part winning the war is not really what I look for. I have only ever played games at a semi pro level with regards to consol games. One thing I did there I apply to this game the first flight sim I have ever played is this. Set small goals. Win or lose that goal in one sortie try again. I take more statisfaction in a 5 man successful base take or a 2 man horde spoiler (attempt ussually a 1 way trip) but as long as I got someone to talk to people to shoot at im happy.

Some timez ill even fly a bomber lol.

Fun and enjoyment is in the eye of the beholder,  no one can tell u how to have fun or dictate ur fun. At the end of the day you pay the subscription you pick what you want to do

Fights like this:

Monday night my FSO wingman and I flew in the MA together and had a fight against 4 enemy, one co-alt and two lower, when the 4th showed up HIGHER than us.  Using our "top down" and "biggest threat first" approach, we kept switching our focus between cons, eventually getting the high one, an La-7, to blow his E and get him a bit below us.  We pushed the co-E F4U-1A down just as the lower Spit-14 (man those things can climb!) got up to our alt.  Just when we thought we'd have a shot on one, he'd roll over and split-S out as another worked for position behind us.  The fight seemed to last 20 minutes, although it was really a fraction of that. It was a fight that taxed our SA, ACM and teamwork skills to the maximum.  We were constantly switching between targets and coordinating maneuvers.  After what felt like an eternity we killed the La, then the Spit, then the Corsair, and the fourth one (another spit) went home.  I think my palms were sweating at the end of that fight.  THOSE are the moments I play for.  Having amazing fights and being able to land with my wingman at the end.

Or fights like this:

Flying by myself and finding a 109F4 below me.  Attacking him repeatedly and watching him make perfect defensive maneuvers.  Getting a few hits on him, even oiling him eventually, but unable to get him to go down.  Eventually running short on fuel and ammo, with a ways to go home and figuring the other guy flew so well he deserves to land his wounded bird rather that get shot down deadstick.  I decide to RTB and for fun I give him a little wing waggle as I go by on my last guns-cold pass.  On a hunch I type on 200: "Go land it, Latrobe.  Great fight! <S>"  and a few seconds later, Latrobe: "That was FUN Ryno! <S>"

Quality moments like that you just don't forget in this game.

For those of us playing this game for well over a decade, Aces High is more of a social club. The game just provides the framework. I keep logging in for the people and Pipz was the kind that you keep coming to meet again.

I can't remember anything fun enough to justify a return, therefore I have not returned!!   :aok

So, I guess nothing.

Had great fun last night (and stayed up too late "Yawn")

My 190 and a Jug flown by LILMak, I lost but was a protracted slow dogfight.  :aok

Fighting the Knits, They love the fight hardly attacking or trying to capture the base I was at.  :headscratch:

Solo capture of a key V base, which led to hours of fighting with waves of low bombers from the nearby enemy base trying to wipe us out. (and not succeeding)  :ahand   Oh the humanity! (too many kills to count on both sides)

Trying to kill Cobia in that dammed A-20 only to find I can't turn with that bewitched machine.  :furious  :cry

Engine out and conserving energy just enough to reach the runway with a few kills.

Variety is the key for me. GV fights in the crater are always good.

Greebo's map has been up for awhile this time it seems it is won fairly quick most times.   :(

I always wanted to fight an impossible battle against incredible odds.

Anything that makes me Smile, it could be an amazing sortie were I come back with 10 scalps, or it could be a messing around at a friendly base doing c47s jousts. This game is really just filled with some much good stuff.

I play to run around and not die.  My only goal in life is to not die virtually, that way I can be immortal (in a virtual sense).  A good night in AH consists of me never actually making contact with any red guys who might actually hurt my virtual self.

I bounce around doing all different stuff, not much bombing as I am impatient.  The little stuff is what I find fun.  The other night a buddy and I chase a TA a long ways.  I'm slower so they get separation from me (dang why are they that much faster?) and the TA gets my buddy.  When I get there the TA and I start mixing it it up.  He goes for the rope but I'm pretty sure I have just enough to catch him, I go up...he's too experienced to allow that..hmmm... sure enough, he's setting me up for a Yak thats coming in fast.  If I don't do something quick, the Yak has an easy shot on me.  I'm on fumes and no way can I make it back to friendly airspace if I do survive fighting them both.

I decide to take the hit from the Yak.  I luck out and he only gets an aileron.  The TA is totally committed now as he was betting the Yak would get me.  I get the TA, the Yak left, and I fly away and land a few miles short of friendly territory, land and tower out giving the Yak a kill.  I hit the hangar to grab more fuel for the next sortie and only then realize I have 2 bombs selected that I carried through the whole last sortie.  I chuckled at myself, deselected ords, and headed back to the fight.

I play for collecting fun interactions like that, win or lose.
