ever heard about that thing called "darbar"?  

And no, you can't hit a a "totally random spot", unless you found a way to airspawn in the MA at your will. Someone tracking the darbar movement over several sectors will have a pretty good idea where in a sector the cons will be found.

That's actually a common tactic used against base takes. The goons are ALWAYS in the back, so fly past the horde and the goons should be somewhere in that direction.

It's not very hard to figure out where the goons are hiding.
