"You have been captured" - A Modest Proposal
« on: June 09, 2014, 08:54:29 PM »
I have made a suggestion previously where, instead of a simple "you have been captured" message, the downed pilot gets the opportunity to do some e&e and be rescued by a storch, goon or GV.

I also suggested that downed pilots have the option to join a resistance movement to contribute to base taking, maybe as a pathfinder for inbound troops, or sabotaging shore batteries shooting at fleets coming through the straits of Navarone.

I also asked for the option for the downed pilot to fall in love with a female resistance fighter and maybe find some fecund land where, sick of killing, he can sit out the war, farming the land with his woman.  And maybe buy a cow with perk points.

These suggestions were met with resounding indifference.

Fine - let's not make the game more fun.

So if we're going to stick with the simple "you have been captured" mode, let's at least extend "captured mode" into real gameplay and give captured pilots a chance to redeem their k/d.

Captured pilots should be interred in a luftstalag near the strats.  Captured pilots will need to tunnel out, then either steal a storch, or ride a motorcycle to freedom.

If the player has modified his uniform to look like a civilian and has the proper forged papers (minigames!), he can risk taking an enemy train to the border.

I eagerly await this new, more exiting gameplay.

(And yes, I recently was forced to exit my aircraft and parachuted one pixel closer to an enemy base.)

We actually did this (or something like this) during the Battle of Britain scenario last year. Pilots that were shot down over the channel or over England could be rescued by sending a jeep, storch, or PT Boat out to them, and radioing that pilot in as "found". It might be hard to do this on a regular basis in the MA, but some of your ideas would be great in an historical Scenario situation.

Incidentally, there's one going on right now: Pacific War! Frame Two: Midway goes this Saturday at 3:pm! Walk On's Welcome!  :bolt:

If anything, it would give me a reason to talk to those liquored-up GV jockeys I fly over every night.

"Yee-ha!  Starting up!"

As I recall, the SAR was one of the most memorable aspects of the Battle of Britain Scenario and I'm kind of disappointed we're not using it for PacWar, but since we don't have PBY's, I suppose it makes sense. I know I was having fun driving around in a Jeep and gathering up stray pilots, although at one point, a bunch of them pointed their .45's at me and were all like "Get out of the car! Get out of the *ing car!". Makes me the first guy ever to get jacked in AH I suppose. I told them this wasn't Grand Theft Auto, but they didn't listen.

Oh man you gotta implement this!

An 'early' AH Battle of Britian included 'fields' at farm steads were one could rearm and reup against the 'Boch'...
Need somemore of that 'out of box' thinking...

I'm against it. Unless we can see in advance what the female resistance fighter looks like. If she is of the same clan as the pilots we see in the oclub , I think we need to stop that bloodline. The freakish kids they would produce is something none of us need to be exposed too. ( if they are added I propose we also add Sally Struthers to the game to help support the freakish minecraft looking Eddie Munster offspring they will produce)

Also the thought of being able to purchase a cow is just a bad idea We have lost the sheep already, and if we loose the cows down the road I don't feel that I could handle the heartbreak   :(

Prototype female resistance fighters to sit out war with.

Not grammatically correct but you get my point.

Back in the "old days" I used to play Red Baron in career mode, which had a similar mission outcomes -

You either landed successfully (at which time your squadron cmdr would put up your kill board)
You crashed (at which time you were shown in the hospital with a cast, and then would be returned to your unit a short time later)
You got captured (at which time you were put in a POW camp, and would escape and return to your unit a somewhat longer time later)
You got killed (start a new pilot).

I would like to see something like this done with AH.
Land successfully - quick note of your kills and stats, then re-up - no delay.
Ditch - get chewed out by your flight mechanic over how you treated "his" airplane - re-up in 15 seconds.
Crash - quick checkover by the flight surgeon - re-up in 30 seconds.
Captured - quick interrogation by the enemy, followed by your escape back to your unit to re-up in 45 seconds.
Killed - a military funeral, followed by your re-up in 60 seconds.

It would give people at least SOME incentive to land, and to not just mindlessly up over and over again one at a time in a vulch situation.
