<S> AH2 Community and Farewell
« on: August 08, 2014, 02:08:04 AM »
8 years ago I would have never thought this day would come but I have decided to cancel my account for AH2.

When I started playing this game 8+ years ago my only goal was to learn the art of aerial combat, fight everyone and everything, and try to become one of the best fighter pilots in the game. That is the only reason I play this game - for the fights. I do not care about the war. I do not care about the perks. I do not care about getting kills or landing them. I do not care about the chess piece loyalty. I do not care about bombing or gving. I do not care about score. Other people do play this game for those reasons or other reasons, and that's fine but for me it was, has been, and always will be about the fight. These past 2 or 3 years though I have been noticing a severe decline in fights in the MA. These past few months they have almost become non-existent. The last 6 months I have gotten into very few decent fights, most of which have been the result of me having to ask on channel 200 if anyone wants to fight and getting a reply from a close friend in the game. The vast majority of my sorties (I'd say around 98% of them) involve me upping towards a red dar bar, merging with someone, and watching them dive straight to the deck and run to ack. I break off, look for another target, and repeat the same process until I either run out of fuel or bail out from boredom. Heck, I even had one guy PM me asking why I wouldn't fight him! And by fight him he meant "why won't you follow me into my base ack?" This is not what I'm pay $15 a month for.

Biggest <S> to everyone in Aces High 2! You have all been some of the most awesome people I have ever met in my life. I have made so many really good friends from this game from all over the world! I'll still be lurking around the BBS a bit but Latrobe in the MA is no more. If the fighter pilot spirit ever returns to AH2 then maybe I'll make a comeback to the game. Otherwise I don't think I'll be making a return any time in the near future.

Again massive  :salute and farewell my friends.

Can't say I can disagree with anyone wanting to leave. My squad has lost some good players in the last few months that have dropped their subscription. One was a friend that I started flying these games with back in the early '90s.

Erratic game functions; Bullet drop, bullet dispersion are way off. Too many hits from 800 yards out. Bombers able to hit from 1000+ yards. Dogfighting bombers. Too many HO shot specialists. Large maps that can't be defended with the amount of people playing. Three country system results in the majority of players in two countries attacking the weaker third country. ENY.  Tankers/idle players counting against ENY. Perk system. Erratic damage system. Erratic pilot injuries. Certain planes not performing close to their specifications.

There are some fun aspects of the game but much of the fun is fleeting. It doesn't seem like AH cares about fixing these issues (IMO). It's a shame because there is a good game under these problems. Best of luck to you Latrobe. <S>

I am currently in the same frame of mind. Such a shame to lose Latrobe. We are losing the core of players that will actually fight. The cry of "it's my $15" is wearing mighty thin, as are the availability of good fights, and consequently the number of players, in particular, long term, highly skilled ones :old:

I feel ya Latrobe. The only time I really like playing anymore is when there are only about 60 players online. Anyway, it's aces high you're supposed to take a break every few months. On a year, off a year or two.

I promise you 10 fights a week in planes of your choice if you stay. I can only pay up on weekends though. Come on guys, let's pass the fights hat around for Lat.

If you guys all leave there will be nothing left for me BUT inanimate objects to attack. And this is the only truly well-designed MMO combat flight sim, so that will be tragic.

I've got to say old chap, I manage to find people willing to get into mah-neuvering fights with me frequently in today's MA. I note that almost half of your kills last tour were done flying the 109F. Now this is a very maneuverable, but rather slow fighter by LW standards. Moreover you are a known lethal experten in the thing. So naturally you will find people running from you. You have a nice P-51 video on Youtube. Try flying that for awhile. I think you will find most will be unable to run from and will in fact be happy to turn fight a Pony.

Latrobe,
We don't know each other from the main arena.  But I know you from the community because of the generosity of your knowledge and your general involvement in 'what's going on'.

The lakes here in Texas have really suffered in the drought.  Lost shoreline is exposing a lot of ugly.  We don't complain, we just keep hoping it will rain.  We pray for it.  You've got to feel like you're a vanishing breed around here.  I don't think you are.  It's just that the current numbers of players are exposing a lot of ugly, no matter what your game preferences are.

You are entitled to your frustration.  I don't want to see one more player leave the game during this period of low numbers.  I'm hoping that things will turn around and I'm willing to bet they will.

With respect,

Ratsy

I completely understand where you are coming from. Just yesterday I had to beg a guy on PMs to quit running to ack and fight me. He was in a superior plane and I was outnumbered by him and his buddies. When he finally decided to stick around and fight we had a great time. I lost 2 out of 3 but had a blast doing it. I do not understand the lack of wanting to fight in this game. It is a combat simulator after all.
