1v1 of my Spit 16 vs LeonTwnk's 109. This was from awhile ago, I more or less only knew how to rate-fight. :x

Still fun, after rate fighting for 4 minutes with the stall horn blaring, he stalled out and I made him pay.

I remember watching this one. I remember him commenting how much he hates rate fights lol.

Well flown though, Leontwnk isn't an easy opponent by any means.

What is a rate fight ?

Anyone feel free to correct me, But a rate fight is when you hold a your turn in the hopes that your turn RATE will eventually allow you to gain your opponents 6 Oclock. It can be done in the vertical or horizontal and is different from a Radius/angles fight in which you attempt achieve a superior position through a tighter turn radius.

Hopefully someone will be along to explain it better than myself but thats how I understand it.

According to US Navy Lcdr. Joe "Smokin' Ruzicka, a Tomcat RIO from the early 2000s-
"Fighter pilots always talk about a Rate vs a Radius fight, which in layman terms means how fast can you go around the circle you are turning versus how short of a radius can you make your circle. "

Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Logged in today, and lo ad behold, there was someone in the WW1 arena! That someone turned out to be edshot, a non subscriber. So I gave him a fight in my Sopwith, then we changed over to Match Play for some 1v1 dueling.

First we had a match in Spitfires, his Mk 8 vs my Mk 9. After a lot of nicely executed maneuvers on both sides, he bested me.

Then we switched to my favorite, the Mosquito Mk 6. First round, which I don't have a film of, I tried to hang up on the prop, but he managed to shoot me while hanging in the vertical with me, wounding me and forcing me to bail.

Second and third rounds we got down and dirty, we kicked flaps out, took hits, and I ultimately won the next two matches.

Quite a fun way to spend the morning!  :airplane:

That G14 flight was epic. You prefer gondolas? What witchcraft is that view system? I did need to use my handy dandy NATO airsickness bag afterwards though.  :old:

I will use gondies in the G14 every now and again, although I kinda like the 30mm for it. The vomit inducing view is the VR headset I use lol.

I don't think I could cope with that and retain my dinner. Tough choice.

You don't see Yak-3s burning very much. Often wondered where their fuel tank was. A little glass vodka bottle on the dashboard maybe.
