It wouldn't do anything but make the ego's bigger, clutter up the icons and increase smack talk on 200. We all ready know who is good, they tells us everyday. :devil

Fighter Ace had this listed next to the player's icon - they were called Aces. For every 5 kills, a * would appear by your name. It was a great way of adding an element of competition.

I would love that

Nothing more than a way to encourage vulching and avoiding actual ACM.  Back in Airwarrior there was some sort of announcement after each kill and everyone knew it meant nothing as the guys racking up the numbers were all hovering over a field in the VoD vulching.

If it matters to you, keep a pen and paper handy and write it down yourself

There seems to be some strange ideal that all AHers should be subscribed to.  A set of rules that seems to state that how one can, and should play the game.

Thats not a good way of looking at things.

Some people really do like to fly for score. Myself sort of included (i don't like the current scoring methods) I think it is fun to see how well I can stack up to the other players.
I very much love the ability to rearm.  I want to see just how far I can go, how far I can take it against human opponents before one of them gets me. This was one of my biggest complaints of AWIII, there was no ability to rearm. So if I take a 109k in that game I could only expect a few kills at best. A F4U gave alot more ammo so I could get more, and thats what I mostly flew. Because of that.

Some fly for score.
Some fly for killstreaks.  <--as is relevent in this post
Some fly for intense dogfights
Some fly for the thrill of hunting bombers over the strats.
Some fly to be that bomber
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
The point is that it should not matter, because every players flying and fighting style and their enjoyment of the game is different. What is wrong with that?  The diversity of allowing a player to play the game how they want is why I play Aces High.

Your point is exactly correct MK-84.  People play different ways.  Adding something that only reinforces one way to play would be detrimental to the diversity of game play.  To that end, if you want to fly for a kill streak so be it.  But don't impose it on the rest of us by having some message coming across the screen telling us about it.

Since I like to fly into a crowd and die often, is it ok that we reward that too?  Do you really need to see "CorkyJr has died on 101 sorties in a row"?  Or would it be better if I just kept track myself?  :)

The point is the same.  Artificially rewarding or encouraging one style of play over another would be detrimental to the game overall.

[sidebar EDIT]
I bet you that I fly a more diverse set of planes each month than almost anyone (go check - month-after-month).  P-40s to LA5s.  My HUGE tendency is to fly non-uber planes.  This places me in a very diverse set of scenarios and ACM possibilities.  Your accusation lacks any effort of fact finding before the post.

That being said, I wonder if this type message could be disabled.  Just like how stars are visible or not.

AH, please augment this wish to have the option to disable the message for those that dont want to see it.

Thanks all for your posts.  :salute

As would I, but it seems we're most likely in the minority overall. Most players here seem to hate any kind of objective measure of competition.

Works for me.

Now that I think of it, it would be nice to have that option in order to disable the "Heroic Player has landed 10 kills in an La7" sort of message, too.

With respect, I have to point out that objective measures are readily available in two places.  One is the ranking next to callsign on the roster pop up.  The other is the score tab on the main HTC page.  Less objective and more subjective are the 'outcome stats' displayed in the text buffer at landing.

I'm not sure that an icon-based 'measure of competition' would represent anything more than a 'BadAzz Badge'.  However, if this is what the Aces High community at large needs then let's try it.

A wise man once said something about pouring gasoline on a fire...but I don't know what that means.

I bet your reward is already there in the challenges you provide for yourself.  I doubt you need the rest of us to give you an "attaboy" for your efforts though :)

Aces High is like golf; no matter how bad a** you think you are the only real person you're playing is against yourself.

If you want to limit yourself fly fast late war aircraft with a firewalled throttle, never take risks, vulch fields and so on. I'm certain you'll land kills and maybe that will appease the internal inadequacies you may suffer from.  Regardless, flying like this and beating your chest about your skill level in the game is a pointless exercise as the community can see the bullcrap for what it really is.

I think folks can take a simple wish and project all kinds of things into it.

I certainly can keep track of it myself.  In fact in my early days of playing this game I'd used an Excel spreadsheet and tried to examine and learn from each sortie.

AH, if the community wishes to have this wish so as only the player achieving x kills in a row sees it that is fine with me.  On the side, if most want it displayed so be it.  I am good either way.

I think it is harmless.  I also think stats\score is only really useful for eaches own use and not as a comparison on how good one is ...but that is just me.
