Did you know that

- only about 10-12% of all tank deaths are to planes
- tanks are achieving almost a 1-1 K/D vs planes? Yes, medium to heavy tanks and tank destroyers only, AA vehicles are excluded.

Yet asking for the same icon range between GVs and planes (6K) always results in endless whines  :uhoh

I'd just like to have more,, better,, places to hide,, open the doors up on the big barns, make the GV icons smaller and not show thru the roofs of the buildings and trees, a plane shouldnt be able to see a tank inside a building from the air!

I think there should be some icon identification and for now I think HTC has it right for ranges.

However... I'd rather see something different as far as WHAT the icon says.  I like the idea of "TRK" for a tracked gv, "WHL" for a wheeled gv, and "HT" for half tracks, at least for distances outside 600 yards or so.  I think HTC is way too generous.

Same goes for planes, too.  I think the icons should read "1ENG", "2ENG", or "4ENG", until 1000 yards or so.  MAKE it so scouting is more a part of the game.

All for game play, yet all helps with the "fog of war" as well.

I like that idea for scenarios. Not so much for the MA, but I think is a good idea for a special event.

I agree that GVs should also have no AC icons.. including wirbles.

Then I can fly an IL2 around friendly spawns and watch someone killshoot themselves trying to kill me

Might as well put a big target around the GVs.

that's what gv's are supposed to be.

that's why air power is superior.

Enemies. That that was obvious. my fault. All friendly icons would be enabled at standard 6.0K range. Enemy GV icons would be disabled. Both from AC to GV and GV to AC.

No, GV icons should have the same rules for enemy and friendly aircraft.  I am sick of fleeing aircraft going straight to a Wirble that they can magically see and I cannot.

There is no logical reason why a 37 foot wingspan P-51D should be visible at 6000 yards yet a 30 ton tank should not. Either the aircraft icon range is far too long for realism or the GV icon is far too short. One cannot have it both ways. BTW, from being in light planes I know one can easily tell the difference between a sedan and a pickup from 5000 feet above them.

The point is to protect the GV warefare side of the game though.. By taking out GV icons from AC, I think it will help ever so slightly.

Ah, the system already works like this. You only have icons over you if a part of your tank is visible to the AC. To find a M3 parked in one of those small barns, you must see him through the door or little window. I fly low level around where M3s are thought to be hiding looking almost through each barn I can see. When I spot it, then a Bomb will be on its way soon.

I disagree that your protecting your GV wares  :D is the point. The point is to simulate the gear of WWII and then let us kill each other with it. The short icon range is an enormous and unrealistic concession made to the GV crowd so they would shut up. This was a mistake, as .squelch GVwhiner #5,678 would work just as well.
