Shambles post - for the record
« on: June 24, 2000, 10:36:00 AM »
First, Vladd has it right - I have been even upset former AW squad C/O in my enthusiasm on our mail bot about AH. OK, I wanted a response and overdid the language to obtain one - slider back down again :- )
BUT...
1. No-one has come up with any fixes.
2. There appears to be no official support to resolve problems. The best way to stop new players coming here is to make it difficult even to run the game. Vitriolic respondees to my earlier post please take note. No, I'm not a troll, don't live anywhere near a bridge ;-)
3. Is a proper manual really such an unreasonable request? Would save HT a lot of questions online.
4. We ARE paying for this you know. I used to be a programmer myself and i can tell you that adding premature additional code (further aircraft being 'somewhat unnecessary' in the circumstances) on top of a still unstable system - is just asking for trouble.

Finally, my post was prompted by HT's answering 'can't get more direct than this' to the online question 'Is there a way to contact him directly?'. HT then promptly failed to answer anything else (although continued to answer others (as usual)before logging. At least I got my answer...

Until they start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, financial wise, the crew probably wont grow.  That means at times support might be a tad slow.  Eventually they might get to add a person or 2 for tech support and maybe an arena monitor to contol the kiddies.  The gamers are just gonna have to hold tight for awhile.

Fixes for what?  You still havent described your problems

2. There appears to be no official support to resolve problems.
====
What is the Technical Support Forum for?

3. Is a proper manual really such an unreasonable request?
====
Did you know that there is a Hitechcreations Web Site that has a full featured and updated
ONLINE MANUAL????

4. We ARE paying for this you know. I used to be a programmer myself and i can tell you that adding premature additional code on top of a still unstable system - is just asking for trouble.

This last release has seen some problems and most of these have been addressed within the first TWO DAYS.  But what is *premature* code? what is a *still unstable system*?

Asking Hitech support questions online has always been a hit and miss proposition.  Try having fifty to sixty people ask you questions all at the same time on open as well as private channels when your already doing half a dozen other things to begin with.

Travis, I thought the callsign sounded familiar so I checked and yes, you are a member of the 13th TAS.  Did you know we have a squadron Forum here at this very website?  You could go there and ask questions to bunch of folks that are seriously involved in this sim and any one of us would be happy to help you sort problems out.  Have you posted there?

MY PROBLEMS DID NOT ORIGINATE WITH THE LATEST RELEASE. PREMATURE MEANS 'TOO EARLY' STILL UNSTABLE MEANS 'BUGGY AND DUMPING FOLKS'

1. Poor management. Why the hell isn't there a proper centralised official source for info. It would save all those questions and allow not just the few to know whats supposed to be working and how.
2. HT says he's there last night 'direct' but ignores / fails to respond when you actually try to find out anyhthing.
Sorry dude did my best. Was realy swamped that evening.

3. Bugs, bugs and more bugs - AH is getting a reputation. Radio VOX - not working, films - not working, map - not working. I can't even change fields in the map room, let alone in the tower.
I belive you are drasticly overstating things.

4. No proper tech support, even via e-mail.
This venture is going to need loyalty from its customers and this is no way to retain it. Come on, you can do better. If not, another question - just how do you cancel one's account here?

I was going to try respond to these but have decided that until you give me a specific bug or get out the company bashing mood your currently in, your more of a detriment to HTC as customer than your money is worth.

On the other hand if you wish assistance finding some of your system specific problems feel free to call and I will personaly provide you with what ever assistance I can render.

Travis,

Try as we might there is nothing we can say short of "Damn Travis, your right this place sux" that will make you happy.  A lot of people have tried to help, yet you continue to be arguementitive even with your own squadmates.

I don't know what else to suggest other than perhaps you would be happier somewhere else.  This sim is obviously not up to your standard and based on what I have learned about you for these boards, I don't think it ever will be.

HTC releases new things as soon as they possibly can.  This often results in releases being less than perfect and need some quick patching.  I much perfer this method of upgrading the game.  The small bugs that result are far out wieghed by the huge improvements to the game.

If you don't want to see anything new until it's been tested for every possible bug on every possible computer, I suggest that you stop by Blizzard.  They have a wonderful reputation of delivering bug free software.  They also never have delivered any software without 2 years of development.  Oh and they don't make flight sims.

I really think it is in your best interest to find another gaming company.  The object of these flight sims is to have fun, and your obviously not, so why not do everyone a favor and fly elsewhere and save yourself some agravation and money.

Having said that if you really want help in solving your problems with AH, please feel free to drop me a line with your specific problems listed and I will do everything I can to help you get them fixed.  You can reach me at ftgcss@home.com

I don't know what more I or anyone of us or the folks at HTC can do for you short of coming over to your house and going through your system personnely, which by the way if you happen to be local I would be glad to do.

Jeeze, You really don't know how good it is here, compaired to some of the other on-line sims.  I came here from Warbirds, and they have had one minor update in thime I have been here (going on 5 months) while we have had 2 major version changes/improvements with bug fixes following each one in very short order.  I found many bugs in the Warbirds code that still exist today, dispite many reports by long term customers.  Also, as far as I can tell from the limited ammount of information IEN will give about WBIII, Aces High 1.03 looks to be a better looking product in every aspect except depth of plane set. (and at their current pace (3 new planes and 1 new ground vehicle in this release alone, While I waited for over a year for one new bomber in WB.)
I also used to play AW back when it was on AOL, and I don't remember it ever being updated in my over a year of playing.

This is getting out of hand folks. I have already stated, which I am sure is appreciated by those with any degree of comprehension, that my initial post was deliberately over-stated. Now, how about everyone calms down a little?

Again, I would point out that the UK Air Warrior mail list has received nothing but praise from me for AH since its inception.

Having spent 21 years in business myself, much in the computer software industry, PPL with instrument rating and years of experience in flt sims, I may just be well placed to help AH along ... if given the chance.

Message boards are a considerable breeding ground for just the type of squabble which has occurred due to the impersonal nature of their medium.

Practicalities - HT, I really am not feeling as bad about the situation (or you!) as may be apparent. I do in fact respect your approach (at least) to these postings, so let's try something...

I have posted one particular problem which is quite strange, all over the place. Can you solve it? I cannot dbl click either map or tower to change countries by pointing at fields. Mouse not an issue. Using TNT2 which just about could be. Solve that and I'll kiss Sharky (not on the lips though).
May even use that number for a transatlantic chat.

psst. travis: try www.dialpad.com  for free Internet-originated phone calls to fixed lines in the US.
oh, and my TNT2 works just fine.
(finally, macho folks use dot commands.  for me it's ".plane 11/.fuel 3/.move 13/.fly" to get my 205 gassed up and in the hangar at A13.)

HTC,

Am I downloading a seperate version of the Aces High software?

I never find anything wrong with the sim.  Maybe I should look harder!  Sure little things here and there, but nothing worth addressing.

I guess I am too easy to please!  Please forgive me.  I will from now on become more critical of your product!

Actually, I believe you are doing a great job!  Please don't change a thing!!

All is good!

Swager deems it so!
