Oh, didn't know they are painted in the US or that they can be painted by the customer's idea. I must admit the latter adds some credibility to the end user.

Anyway, the painting doesn't make the computer run better.

Yep and paying a double price for the computer just to get a custom paint job is a bit daft IMO. I would prefer to get a wall enclosure and hide the whole box in wall instead.

Thanks for all this information, and particularly for Karaya's efforts.  I'm mulling all this over in my brain.

My brain hurts....

There are a couple of build threads here from the last month or two that'll be pretty instructive IMO, I'll look for them and link them later tonight.  It CAN be done, you do have to pick your battles with the build, but I know a member here built a nice system with a 970 extremely capable video card, as in one of the top 2 or 3 available right now, in addition to a decent drive, 8 gb of decent ram, good PSU and so on.

It was Kool's thread near the bottom, and for just over 1000$ he built the following, IMO a great, solid, build with good components.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (Not yet purchased)
Video Card: 970 video card - not sure which he bought.
Case: Corsair C70 Military Green (Green) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

I ended up going with the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970. The build cost me a couple of bills over $1k.  Current PCPartPicker pricing is shown below.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core   $229.95
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing  $29.98
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H ATX LGA1150   $137.99
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866    $89.99
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SSD   $114.99
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE   $343.99
Case: Corsair C70 Military Green (Green) ATX Mid Tower     $89.99
Power Supply: Corsair 760W ATX12V / EPS12V     $166.00
Total: $1,202.88

If you reuse a case and PSU, or case and hard drive, you're under $1k.

The build rocks.  It didn't improve my kill/death ratio but did make my deaths much more prettier to watch.  :aok

Yep, either of those builds are fantastic for the $ - it's amazing just HOW good a 1000-ish$k PC is now, unless you're running really high res on multiple monitors or really high end 4k/Gsync type stuff, I don't think your experience is all that must worse off than many 2500$ systems nowadays, especially with the 970 leveling the playing field for the price so much as it has.  Good times for PC gaming, that's for sure.

I see this post is from yesterday.  Assuming the hardware hasn't gone out of date since then is this a pretty much best bang for the buck build?

I need a new home PC (haven't had one working in a year) and I haven't kept tabs on the latest and greatest.  My poor little 12 year old Dell finally blowed up and my precious computer I had around won't work without a serial mouse and keyboard.  Sheesh. It also has windows 2000...

This or the one Karaya posted - yes, IMO either are among the better options for bang for the buck, and it's a lot of bang right now.  Some of the stuff is personal pref and can easily be switched about without getting too much off track with regards to price, but for 1000-1300$, you should be able to get a system that smokes your current one Golfer.  The 970 card is fantastic for the $, it's been a long time since something so powerful and such a jump over previous offerings has been this cheap, I've seen them under 300$ now if you look about, and that is NUTS, considering what the 300$ cards were like this time last year by comparison.

IMO so long as you get decent ram, a decent drive, either a hybrid, decent spinner, or smaller/less expensive SSD, a reasonably decent MB/CPU combo as above, a decent PSU, and whatever you like so far as case goes - putting all this together with the 970 will make PC gaming a very happy experience with your first boot up.

For longevity I'd prefer a self-built or a self-compilated one over any prebuild rig. That's the only way to tell the quality of all parts. For example in the link the Ibuypower says the PSU is 500W but not a word about its brand or quality.

I built this system about a month ago so the parts are current.  If you want to check pricing from time to time here's a direct link to my saved parts list:
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kool327/saved/dqvscf
Price just dropped another buck today.  :O

I just noticed the Estimated Wattage for the parts on my list is 327W.  :O :O
What a bazar coincidence!

Here is the build I created for him and $1000 is not possible (even building it himself he would be around the cost below with an SSD) and I damn near echoed your build bro, without even knowing it ahead of time.   But if you are going to build one, I cannot recommend this build enough.

Because you have to go into the configurator and scroll down to change cases.   You are no by no means stuck with any case, it comes down to how much.   The Corsair case I chose for Oldman was below and was $30 up from the stock one.

I don't like you... I clicked your link, JUST out of curiosity, and browsed around, and now I'm out $1,100 and have a new desktop on the way lol.

Thanks! We ate a bunch of free food, and thanked our lucky stars we even have the opportunity to do this job. It's a true privilege!

The timing couldn't be worse, as my GF lost her job today, but I'm selling some guns to offset it... Wish I had heard about her job BEFORE clicking the buy now button, lol, but I always said this is one of the reasons I collect guns: to sell the ones I don't like.
