Track IR
« on: October 26, 2014, 12:28:40 AM »
I have been using a big screen TV to play AH lately and was wondering if the track IR would work on such a set up, I have a low level chair and usually sit about 4 feet from the screen, not sure how far the system will track correctly.

Any comments would be helpful

I love TrackIr - I think you will be ok.  I use a 30" monitor and am about 3 feet from my monitor and it works just fine.  I do find it works more accurately if I am a bit closer but for my purposes it is fine at 3 feet.

How low is 'low level chair'?  I find the system works better with the camera at head height but it can be tilted.  If you are sat really low you can of course put the camera on the desk at the bottom of the screen

I say go get it and be prepared to work with it for a month - you will not want to give it away.  LOL even when I watch AH films I am turning my head to see other angles  :D

Hey HL welcome back!

I have a large screen TV as my monitor too and sit a ways back from the screen as well. The issue I had was that the camera would lose connections sometimes as I moved around when I had it mounted either above or below "centered" of my screen. My solution was to mount it to the left ( the side my clip pro is on) and raise it up so it was centered horizontally (see picture, look at the left side of the TV). I stuck it to the top of a 1/4 wooden dowel which I velcroed to the side of my TV. It works great, rarely loose connection now.

Thanks Gents that is helpful, the TV sits on stand so the clip would be at a height somewhere in the center of the screen, sounds like Fugi's idea would work if mounting on top or on the lower area of the stand causes problems, the chair can always be moved closer in or out as needed, think I will give it a go, fussing around with it for month seems long I would hope it doesn't take that long.

Just to be clear - the product will work pretty much right out of the box - it will take you a month to get used to it :)

Understood FES ,

I noticed the clip that you put on a hat and the extra clip for the headset you can buy, any difference between the too beside where they mount?

4 feet is fine! If I remember correctly it recommends 2 to 4 feet from the monitor.

The head/hat clip is very sensitive to ANY light source in the room. If your going to use it make sure the room is as dark as you can make it.

Picked one up, from my first impression is I won't be killing anybody for a while, very strange sensation, biggest question I have now is how do I get my 6:00 view back, all I see is the seat, seems you have move foward and to the side just to somewhat see around the seat.

It's all about customising your profile. You gotta take your time to adjust the curves for your axis until it fits your situation and personal preferences.
No other item is so totally depending on individual adjustments.

One way is explained here.

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,311822.msg4047939.html#msg4047939

I think it removes a lot of the movement of the TrackIR and so a bunch of the functionality.

This is a page I put togetheron how to make adjustments. Others added point here too.

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,329017.0.html

Here are a bunch of profiles I've collected from other players. Just unzip the file and drop all the files into the "profile" folder inside the TrackIR folder. When you start the program they will be listed under the profiles as who donated it.

Sounds like some work, which is fine, maybe one of the profiles will get close to what I like and it could fine tune to my liking.

Thanks Fellas

Don' forget the speed slider.  It is a bit like a shock absorber setting.

The TrackIR software has a super 3D like head display that will give you good guidance in the setup.  Watch the head as you check your 6.  You should see it doing a neck breaker 180 then slide left or right.

I always suggest turning off Roll, the Y and Z in the very beginning to get the most critical X profile set.  Then start adding them back one at the time.  I leave "Roll" off  all of the time but many leave it on.

That's how I do it. Adjust your scaling and movement limits and you won't have to move too much to get a good rear view.

Also, set a button to center your view.
