my gt vs boss302

 ok. you guys remember i bought that 2012 gt. i've been doing the "old guy" thing, and not driving her in ANY inclement weather, or taking her anywhere that she may get dented/dinged/scratched. thus, she's only got 4200 and change on the clock.

 it came to my attention today that there is a locally available boss302. 2013. she's got 6700 and change on the clock. the boss's came with pretty much all the track goodies, including trans and engine oil coolers if i recall, but still have the getrag mt82 tranny. this one has the track key with it. they're asking 39k. i think i can work something out with my gt to keep the payments the same(as i'm still paying on that).

 just curious of opinions.

I don't know as much about the recent cars.  But among the classic Mustangs the Boss was always my favorite, I've always had a thing for the classic yellow and black 69-70 Boss.

The one thing I do remember reading about the recent cars was regarding the Laguna Seca edition Boss, compared to the Rousch and Shelby Mustangs, and the reviewer concluded that as far as handling it was better then both the Rousch and the Shelby (which both cost more)  I don't know what the difference is between Laguna Seca edition and the 'regular' Boss is though.

Take it out on sunny Sundays only. Life is short. I actually have the cash for a Sunday car now but Im afraid to spend it being so late in my career. I just dont want car payments right now.

for 39k why not go for a cheaper 2015 gt (with the track pack) that bests the Boss in almost every way?

The Boss 302 is on my very short "wish list" for cars I absolutely want.

You could do the Boss over the GT, which I believe is a good plan.  Especially if the car will not be a daily driver.  It will hold its value much better than your GT.  For that matter, if you can get your hands on a 2013 or 2014 GT500 -  even moreso!  Shelby no longer has a contract with Ford making those cars worth more - especially the last two with the highest HP production V8 made!

Or another option - Ford will release the 2016 GT350 (or whatever it will be called) and will be an awesome car.

I don't think these mass produced cars are going up in value anytime in the next 30 years. If performance is what you are after get the 2015 gt. If you want to spend more to say you have a Boss then get it. Unless you plan on keeping the car 40 years I wouldn't even let speculated future value be a determining factor.

True, I am speculating on the value of a late model Shelby, but I personally believe I will be proven correct.  Time will tell.

Both sound like good cars. But neither is worth a bit of what you say you like them for if they aren't driven. Get the one you will drive a lot and make it worth it and buy a picture of the one you would feel concerned about driving.

The Boss is probably the best sounding car I've ever heard.  A wise choice.

While you're at it, snag an SN95 Cobra. They're stupidly cheap right now and sometime later on they may be worth a good chunk of cash. My friend got his 97 Mustang Convertible for 2 grand.

If he holds onto it like he says he will, that thing might be worth a lot by the time he's 50.

The only numbers the boss has better is the HP number, The 2015 GT has 420hp to the Boss's 444hp. However the GT has more torque and at a lower rev range. A quote from FORD:

“We set out to create an all-new Mustang that would go, handle and stop better than any previous Mustang, while also being a better all-around daily driver,” said Pericak.

The results speak for themselves – during track testing, the 2015 Mustang GT with performance package consistently beat the lap times of the 2012-2013 Mustang Boss 302.

To me this is a no brainer, Buy a cheaper, newer GT and drive the hell out of it. Also keep in mind that cars are a notoriously horrible investment. Do not buy a new MASS PRODUCED car thinking you are going to make money on it.

I would not go out of my way for a Boss 302 ... except only if it's a LS. For 40K I'd buy a 2015 5.0 that's rumored faster than the Boss around a track anyway. The name Boss is mostly glitter in the eye for the older crowd, and some vague speculation about return on investment, I dont believe in it.
