Fighting the K4
« on: December 11, 2014, 03:38:34 PM »
I like flying the jug, lately I have been having a very hard time with K4s. Any tips to help me win once or twice?

A well flown K4 is a tough nut for any Jug pilot to crack. All P47s have better high speed handling than the K4, which means it can cut the corners while the fight is still fast and find shot opportunity's there. The K4 is faster and climbs better than all the jugs at typical MA altitudes, but as you know the p47 pretty much out dives everything, which could be a method of escape.

The ensuing discussion will essential boil down to P47 needs to make the kill early in the fight while its E is up and where it out maneuvers 109.

really you only have a couple chances. Getting a quick reversal is one, and the other is getting into a downward scissor.  The flaps on a jug pop out at a way higher speed than a k4.

I've done a few co-alt Co-E fights K4 vs 47m at 30k.  I'm not going to name with who but he's a very accomplished 47 stick with the 56th.  They were pretty drawn out fights, very hard for either of us to gain an advantage at around 30k.  In other words I think the pilot is the biggest factor at high alt (30k ish) betweent the two. Once the fight got a bit lower the K4 starts to gain the advantage, and work the verticle against the 47M.  I think we did about 3 fights and they all played out this way.  From the K4 perspective I tried to keep the fight in tight to the jug, as I don't want so much seperation as to give the jug a chance at a gun solution.  Becouse in this category it has the far easier to hit with, and equally devastating gun package.  So from the Jug standpoint try to keep the seperation long, and use your great gun package to take those long shots and keep the K4 defensive.

Thanks guys I'll try to keep what you've said in mind the next time I run into a K4; hope it's at 30k. :)

When it's flown correctly, you cannot consistently beat the K4 with any other plane, except for some of the Russian planes (LA-7 and Yak-3) and even then only under 5,000ft. It's truly the best 1v1 aircraft there is at altitudes under 25,000ft.

Knowing this, you simply have to capitalize on the mistakes the K4 pilot makes. If he makes none, simply extend and try to reenter the fight after you've gained an advantage.

The K4 wants to fight uphill, the P-47 wants to fight downhill.

What?! No! I just find the name funny.

In the MA they are pretty easy. :old:
But their capabilities are uber in comparison to the K4.

A good or even average K4 is deadly. One Ping from the 30mm and your in the tower.
