Human life is precious. We should never have to worry about being harmed due to color. That includes the color blue. I am sure that the media will build a story to sell, and try as I might to have faith that most folks have common sense and would never pointlessly take another human life, I will be reminded on every channel of the abhorrent few who would. But even without hearing a word about this tragedy, I would not be surprised at all to find that this officer was a man who fostered good will towards all, regardless of race, ethnicity or station in life.
Even worse, this only adds to the presumption that lethal force is justified "anytime" someone feels in danger for their own life. Above all, I want our public law enforcers to be safe in performing their difficult duties.
A very in depth look into adding safety measures both for the officers and those they come in contact with, should come from those law enforcement agencies that know in greater detail what those duties are, and should be given every ounce of support from government and the public to do so, unless these agencies are either incapable or unwilling to do so, at which time heavy insurance premiums should be levied on them if they do not seek competent external resources and show immediate compliance to rules and practices that have been proven to address community concerns and safer public interactions.
