I think when he matures, he'll be a great coach.
I don't know what you are talking about.
Question is really do you think he'll be good for your team.
Yep -- I think he'll be great for it, for the Big 10, and for college football overall.
Would I want Jim Harbaugh, no. . . .
I don't think you'll have to worry about getting Harbaugh, but I think you'd be nuts to not want him if you could get him unless you are Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan State, etc.
because I don't think he brings respect from the collective and larger community with him, it's not an asset of his.
Respect? Let's see. He was a great quarterback at Michigan. He went on to be a pro quarterback -- only a very few college quarterbacks manage that, even ones with good college records. In the NFL, he was for a good portion of his career the starting quarterback (another large step up). In that capacity, had at least some excellent seasons (another large step up). Then, out of playing football and into coaching, he built a winning program at San Diego State, which sucked before he got there. He moved on to Stanford, which was usually the joke of the Pac 10, and built it into a nationally ranked top 4 powerhouse. Then he went on to coach the 49ers. The year before he got there (2010), the 49ers went 6-10 and no playoffs. With Harbaugh in 2011, they went to the NFC Championship (first time since 1997) and lost a close game to the eventual Super Bowl champs. In 2012, they went to the Super Bowl. In 2013, the went to the NFC Championship game and lost a close game to the Seahawks, who went on to win the Super Bowl in a blowout. In 2014, they didn't make it to the playoffs.
So, yeah, I guess probably few people respect the guy.
If all you want is wins, no matter no how; then he's your guy.
Excellent. I'll take that -- and that he is a hugely accomplished man with a great record of success. I'll just have to live with the deep regret that he doesn't have your approval or respect.
Assuming he becomes the coach of Michigan, that is. We won't know for sure until tomorrow.
