Whatever I've lost, whatever I'll never have again or never had, whoever is gone forever, this song kills me every time:

Bruce Springsteen "You're Missing".    Written about those lost on 9/11.  I was totally unprepared for it, hearing it for the first time a few months after two of my kis died in a car wreck.  It had me bawling like a baby in seconds as it hit it right on the money about the empty space in our lives with the kids gone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyXYot6wHuE  not so much the song but the video

This whole video got to me about 8 years ago for Sgt. Emerson Brand.  His homecoming and a tribute to the tune of Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince Gill.
on my way home from work back in september, there was a plane outside my gate that was bringing a fallen soldier home.  It was quite emotional for everyone that was there to witness.  I couldn't watch the entire ordeal.

In The Arms Of An Angel - Sara McGlachlan

I bet a lot of the old time players know why.

 Yes we do.

As far as a bone chilling tear making song... Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.

1977...what a totally crap year for me...
Lost love of my life....descended into dark, black depression. Lost jobs, friends..lived in $35 a week room in Eola , Il..it was as bad a place as you could imagine, and I was in as bleak a place in my mind.
I still don't know how he found me...I had cut all ties in my self absorbed spiral down..
Yet there he appeared, my dad..and he said " Get your stuff, let's go home."

Now I have 3 grown kids, better kids than I ever deserved. And I know I am blessed.
 How I miss that man.

There are two songs that break my heart whenever I hear them.  I can't say they are "favourites" because I can't even listen all the way through:

1.  Puff the Magic Dragon - Ever since I was a kid.  Saddest song ever imho.

2.  Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton.  He wrote it in memory of his child that died after falling from a window.  I will change station or room if the song comes on.

I listen to that song occasionally, a good song, in my opinion.
