A memorial to the fallen
« on: April 09, 2015, 12:02:40 AM »
In recent months we have lost a lot of very good players. I would like to suggest that a memorial to the fallen be built... perhaps in the DA or one of the practice arenas... Im thinking of an obelisk with a base where names of the members we have lost can be listed.
This could be a good place to do memorial flights.
Comments???

Why bother?

A nice gesture, but...

The scriptures clearly state there will be no remembrance.

Move on.

The fallen would expect that.

Awesome idea.

Vraciu..sigh...

Vietnam memorial, 911 memorial. Just because it's a game doesn't mean we can't have our own version of a memorial for fallen friends.

Would have to a be an object built into a terrain, either DA or TA terrain.  Or even.....every terrain so it could be seen in the MA as well.  1 object that takes a feed from a server text file that HT would add a name to every time there's a request.  Something tasteful that could be driven to like the RAF monument at Runnymede:

You could even have something like....... if .txt file lastupdateddate < 48hours then flagheight = 0.5

Swoop I like your idea...I really think it should be up to HTC what they want to do... But my $.02 thinks it should be something tall so it can be flown around...and have a big base... for the names and so it can be driven to... This maybe be a coding nightmare, but perhaps something where you can drive inside.
I dont know if it can be in the MA because it would have to be in neutral space.. I love your idea of the flag at half staff.
Keep the ideas and suggestions coming.

it's a nice idea but think about all the trouble that it may cause because a guy or two.

-you have an object and people are gonna want to destroy it, just for the hell of it.  and if you dont think it will happen then look how hq being destroyed is frowned upon by the majority but some make it a point to bring it down.  just because they can.

-the fights over if this person or that person deserves to be added.  or have one name removed for whatever reason.  should we add the guy who passed away recently even though he hasnt played in 5 years but played for 10? who decides what is the cut off time and even then there will be more arguing over the requirements.

-we have lots dozens since I got here 8 years ago.  how far back do you guys want to go?  and why not longer?

most squads have a memorial page for their own  and I think we have at least one guy who has one for those he knows about in ah.  we should keep this going or maybe we should have somebody volunteer to do a webpage and hitech post a link to it.  think this would be better rather than having a monument in the maps that people will argue, fight and quit the game because of somebody's moment of drunkenness or stupidity.

good points, thats why im thinking of in the little used places of ah and not in the MA. And of course it can not be destroyed.

or at each countries' HQ.
With people wanting to view it, the HQ might not be such an easy target.
