WW1 arena
« on: April 11, 2015, 04:09:22 PM »
I'd like to see more done with the WW1 arena. It is a blast to dogfight but is monotonous to players and doesn't get a lot of attention. maybe some balloons/blimps to bomb with and a goal to accomplish. maybe not base taking but protecting infantry and destroying objects/ defending from bombers may be a cool start  :salute

Back in the late Warbirds days, they had an arena called "Dawn of Aces" (a.k.a. DoA...ironically). It had some pretty neat features, including Zeppelins for bombing and the ability to direct artillery fire onto enemy bases. The zeps had multiple defensive gun positions, and were pretty similar to how subs would be controlled. Landscape was representative of the era, as well. Was pretty fun game play, and allowed you to do more than simply fly around and dogfight to no purpose. No GVs, as I recall, but some of the early tanks might have been fun to play with. When I heard about WWI ac being added to AH, I was hoping such an arena might be in the offering. :airplane:

When DOA more or less disappeared some of the old WWI group came over here hoping AH would develop the arena.  Pretty much from day 1 they told us what we have now is it, it wasn't going to be developed.  Agree...would be great to see more.  These are the same people who developed the early version of DOA, and that was it's most popular time.  Would be great to see more.  DOA did have gv's at the end, but that was pretty much when the arena grew empty...

Fighting in those planes is addictive...intense...most often described as a knife fight in a phone booth.  You couldn't often extend unless you were lucky, most often had to fight your way out of a fur ball, or die.  Calling arty was one of the things we really enjoyed, you had to hang your head out of an F2B and readjust the spot until you could barrage, was great fun...wish that was possible in AH, even in the main, late war arena.

Have been on the wish list a number of times with this wish.  Never gets any traction, but no point in not thinking positive.

Roger that, Onerka. Doesn't seem like it was really worth the effort to develop the WWI A/C if there was never going to be gameplay to support it. Just as I'd like to see WWI developed, I'd eventually like to see a Korean War arena/plane set. I want my F-86 Sabre, dang it! :old:

At the time I was under the impression they were trying some different things with the WWI arena, like the more detailed DM on the WWI planes.  To me that alone seemed worth the effort.  I'm guessing they didn't like the results as none of that percolated down to the WWII end of things.  Can't speculate any further than that.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

I hope they keep the ww1 arena when after the update.

There was about 16 to 20 in there the other night when the late war map was won.

It's great fun when there's at least 3 on 3.

If you want to fly WW1 planes, I suggest getting rise of Flight - much better, combat action as well. Kind of like aces - everyone is in a Albatros Dva or DrI or allies in S.E.5.a or Camels.

I was hoping to see a lot more to the WW1 arena, but really it's just the DA with 4 WW1 fighters and a nicer looking map.  I don't really think they are going to drop it though.  They had to put a lot of work into it originally and unless it will cause problems with the coming update, I'm fairly certain it will remain.

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead
