Map Markings
« on: April 19, 2015, 12:14:50 PM »
I wish we had the ability to double click on the map and be able to mark it and add some text to the mark. Additionally, make it so the mark can be seen by the entire country or just your squad, mark creators discretion. This could be used for marking last know positions for carriers, among many other things.

To delete the markers, you simply hover over the marker and press the delete button on the keyboard.

I got this idea from the Arma series games. Here is a brief video of how the system works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEKQzAkMdLo

I remember when I was a rook there used to be a guy that would take command of a cv then write his name using waypoints.

this would take that game to a new level :).

+1 as long as it wouldn't be forced on you.  (I can imagine some folks being cute and cluttering the map up)

Would be great for missions.

Yet something would need to be done to mitigate spamming of it.... a pair of two week trails and alot of free time could blot out the map   :noid

Certainly would be an interesting layer on the clipboard for scenarios/events!!    CM's moving the little chess piece markers on their battle map which players could see (think of calling in positions over radio, but for the sake of the game, it's shown on our clipboard maps instead of queuing up the vox.  The icon would show 3 approximations: Type, Altitude, & Last known heading.   :aok

The spamm aspect could be mitigated by making it a function of tuning to a VOX channel. If it was limited to a squad channel, multiple wing squads would be S.O.L.. Tying it to a mission channel would be logical with the updates to the map going away at the end of the mission. That already exists to a degree with way points in the mission editor.

Some squad nights POTW can field 24 players. The only possible purpose we would put this to would be enemy CV locations and updates to that for our resident CV hunters. Other wise, there is just not that much chess going on in this game in the MA.

For a long time I wish my pilot would remember to bring a magic marker for the map.

The game already knows the information for friend/foe vehicles, type and position in order to relay that data to the player. I think this could be automated where all the player has to do is look in the direction of the target and press a button to submit the target data to the map for all to see (as in BF2, for example). The enemy asset could only be ID'd once until a given amount of time has expired. The map icon would auto update and show up on the map until the submitting either ends the sortie or until a time limit has run out.
