That's what I've been waiting for, for some time. It seems those rumors of Windows going subscription and cloud based have been circulating for quite a while. They can't stop the pirating of Windows, no matter how they've tried. The only way, I see, for them to quell it is going cloud and or subscription based.

Basically means that manufactures use it when they build computers for other companies, at least that's how I understand it.

Yes, OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer.  More important is the license is only good for one build and will be tied to the motherboard once installed and authenticated.

I have transfered windows 7 thru 3 different mother boards with 3 upgrades.  only thing existing from my first build that I reused was the power strip.

Starting from Windows 8 you can legally transfer an OEM license to another computer as long as you use it only on one computer at a time.

Even an authenticated repair service of a major brand had to use other than original motherboards after the stock had run out. They had no issues with Microsoft whatsoever. For what I've called Microsoft to activate an OEM license used more than x times they only seem to be interested in that the license is used on one machine only.

Why be cheap??? Just get another OS LOL.....You will use your first build for atleast 4 years i suggest right? Put 50 cents into a piggy bank every day and you should have atleast 730 bucks after that 4 years, Thats enough to get you a new OS and a better motherboard but possible getting new upgradable parts....just saying guys........ :aok :aok

I've never had a problem swapping motherboards then reinstalling Windows 7 OEM.
I think they just consider it a different computer when you change that.

I guess Microsoft isn't very strict on enforcing the terms of their license.

I guess Microsoft isn't very strict on enforcing the terms of their license.

It appears to go to intent.  The intent being Microsoft does not want users installing the copy on multiple machines.  If you look closely at the working, it seems to indicate they will only activate it for the single machine it is running on.
