Thrustmaster Hotas X mapping and layout

Just got my new stick and throttle today. Feel absolutely great coming from almost 10 years of using a st290 pro. Only problem is trying to figure out the layout...

Started with just the default it provides and building off that.

However, the throttle as a rocker switch on the front that, according the box, is another way to move the rudder in addition to the twisty stick. However, the default for this is rocking left, full throttle, rocking right, zero. The actual throttle does nothing currently. In addition, this left and right has no numbers, and some of the numbers on the stick are labeled L1(2) which is a bit confusing. Wondering who else uses this stick and can get me somewhat airborn.

You'd have to map the rocker for rudder and then calibrate it. Mine is of older make, it has a switch for rocker/twisty above the cord.

Ok so I've so far figured out some of the mapping issues...quick reference for any future people with this stick

Button 0 = Trigger
Button 1 = L1(2) on the stick
Button 2 = ? AHA! Found it, it's R3(3). Little bugger is on the top of the stick, right side flush with the design of the stick.
Button 3 = L3(4)
Button 4 = (5)
Button 5 = (6)
Button 6 = (7)
Button 7 = (8)
Button 8 = R2(9)
Button 9 = L2(10)

I cant seem to figure out what the actual throttle is labeled in the in game mapping window. All the "slider" ones map the the rocker on the front of the throttle... I ended mapping "throttle 1" and "rudder" to the same thing...that was interesting...

Definitely need some assistance on this

Unless you need to use the sticks software to make macros of some such thing I wouldn't bother using it. Aces High has a very good setup when it comes to mapping your stick. Go in to the stick mapping, select your stick in the dropdown and go for it. Hit a button and the list will jump to that button. Hit modify, highlight the function you want assigned and close the box. When down hit the save/close and you set.

Even hitting a button on the throttle will change the selections so that you programming the right switch on the right controller to the function you want. Make a copy of the setting folder and all you work/setting are saved in case of an emergency.

Nice! Very cool! Beats my 3x5 cheat sheet with the mappings.

Oh man, this is so different but so comfortable. Gonna take some time to eliminate old muscle memory but I think it will pay off.

I have the same stick. I use my throttle rocker to zoom in and out, works well.

I also put look up/look down under the thumb part of the throttle. You can press then in conjunction with the hat switch to get diagonal views.

I calibrate zero throttle at the half way detent because all the way back was uncomfortable for me.

Finally getting used to it and got to say I am loving this stick! Just feels right. So much control over the aircraft in both hands, hardly have to switch to keyboard for anything which makes split second decisions much faster. I started used my rocker for just that but switched it to WEP. I have my zoom set on the third button on the throttle (7) as that is where my thumb lies naturally while holding it.

Definitely recommend this stick for someone wanting to upgrade to a HOTAS setup. Coming from on old Saitek this is very smooth and user friendly.
