Why does there exist a car that can have its brakes disabled electronically???

It seems that at least some auto manufacturers need to be informed that not everything needs to be networked.  Want the entertainment system to have bluetooth and wifi?  Fine, but have that system completely separate (as in no hardware connection) from the engine and brake electronics.  Only a physically plugged in tool should be able to access the engine computer to update its firmware.

There is an electronic inhibitor used when the ABS system kicks in.  It prevents the brake pedal from adding pressure to the brakes.  If you trick the system into thinking the wheels are locked up, the inhibitor should kick in and pressure relieved from the brakes.

Sounds like the software was written assuming nothing external of it would interfere.

I'm not into cyber. But as far as security goes, as bad as physical security is, I've always felt that cyber red teams had the easier job, and it just seems to get easier by the year.

Immediately after this story/video was released yesterday, a bill was introduced  directing federal regulators to set security standards for vehicles;

maybe the software was designed by NSA to catch terrorists dweebs,; what if the airbag cartridges  are loaded with nerve gas or C-4?!  :noid

Something interesting I just saw in that video. The guy says "in the old days you just locked your door and your valuables were safe". Car door locks are wafer locks, wafer locks are simple as far as locks go. A car door lock can be opened with a popsickle stick.

Ironically, we just had a truck in the shop (International Dealership) where there was a data-link problem.  The trans computer wasn't seeing the ECM, so the ABS would kick-on when the trans was put into gear.  It turns-out that the trans computer was full of water.

And this is why I will try and keep my old 98 Dodge Ram running. Sure it's old, drinks gas like chocolate milk and has to goto the doctor often, but at least I know I'll be safe when the Cylons attack.

Off a kit?

Hopefully with the new AH update more players will be attracted to the game and he can afford to buy a car instead of making one. :old:

The Cobra is a kit, albeit a highly modified one (adding an IRS suspension).  The second one will have the body of a 62 Corvette.  The third will be a ground up design of my own.

I read it on the internet, so it must be true !
