The greatest jewel of aces high is. . .
« on: August 17, 2015, 03:53:26 AM »
In my honest opinion
I think the greatest jewel of aces high is victory found when your best is not good enough requiring the help of another
When you do your job correctly but success is still dependent on someone else to do their job
Because it is so easy to screw it up or worse have your enemy prevent you from accomplishing what you set out to do
When the simple dogfight becomes make or break
when a bombers drop dictates the last 30 minute time investment of all involved
when an m3 drives for an hour to take a base that ultimately breaks the enemy and leads to winning the war a few hours later

Hitting a tank while you're both on the move, while he's moving to your right on a sort-of parallel track to your rear, 2k away, and you fire your round through the window of a burned out house, and hit him right in the turret.

Oh, and killing the M-3 that drives an hour to your field.  That is delicious.

Massive bomber missions into an active fight at a base, under the radar, that causes the enemy to scramble in droves beneath your bombs.

Large formations of fighters with the same loadout, coordinating a split S/Immelmann combo that causes the encroaching enemy to dive to the deck and run away.

20 or more early war fighters swarming late war super planes to an extent the super planes are dying and running away.

Huge bomber missions over 25k being attacked by large numbers of fighters and surviving long enough for bombs on target.

Bishop 38 Auger Contests.

Large GV missions set up in a semi-realistic manner, with organic AA and logistics. Left and right cover elements, logi in column formation flanked by tanks to the sides and rear with a scout out front and heavy armor pushing forward behind it in a perfectly spaced wedge formation.

T-34/85s rolling through a factory strat at speed and firing on the move, leveling it to 0% in 3 minutes.

Meat-shield Jeeps protecting tanks in the open from enemy fire.

8 P-47D-40s wearing 'Muricaflage flying at 12k in a perfect right echelon approaching target, going single file and rolling in one every 4 seconds for targets.

Sneaking a CV to a large field and flattening the town without being spotted, then launching an invasion that rivals the Invasion of Tarawa for scale.

Driving tanks in the enemy capital, evading ground fire and aircraft while breaking things.

Driving M3s for 4 hours to blow up a handful of targets.

Jumping off of cliffs in Jeeps.

Mass Goon Raids dropping 120-150 troops at varying altitudes.

Painting a field orange from 14k in Storches.

Dogfighting in bombers.

B-29s dropping into a large formation of bombers from above for an aerial ship-to-ship gunfight.

Taking out radars and strategic targets on a field from 8 miles away in a TBM.

Torpedo raids on ports.

7 P-51s taking turns throwing droptanks at a Lancaster's windshield.

Anything involving an I-16 in a furball.

13 people trying to kill a Tiger from the air and ground over the course of 10 minutes.

Watching enemies scream like a girl and run away from a flight of P-40s or P-39s with a 7k altitude advantage and speed.

Calling Fox 2 and firing rockets from a 110 to take out bombers and getting hits.

Watching people HO each other, then collide, with no survivors.

Killing GVs with a Stuka's 37mm guns repeatedly.

Killing Scott66's M3 with anything, anytime it happens.

Watching Skyyr try his yoyo stall on a flight of Nikis underneath you and hanging in the air 1k from your flight of 4 more Nikis and being disintegrated.

Killing Ruaml with an LA-7.

Sitting on a CV after you closed into an enemy battlegroup and killed all the boats, and killing PTs for 10 minutes.

Watching Zorak drop a torpedo on something from 12k.

Smoking out a town for the troops to run in, with 10 guys in tanks throwing smoke everywhere.

Driving in circles around a Tiger 2 in something that can't kill it, taunting him the whole time.

Watching said distraction work, and putting a round into the back of the turret after detracking it.

Pelting an M4 repeatedly that has supplies right behind him until the supplies are all gone, turreting him, and leaving.

Killing Goons at an enemy HQ with a purple 109E.

ROPE, SET, HIKE!! *enemy gets killed behind you in the vertical*

Taking a flight of 6 P-38s with a medium Jabo load to completely deack an airfield in 2 passes from 12k without anyone crashing.

Flying a Ta-152 at 47,500ft just because you can.

Watching NKL5 bait and murder people with a 234.

Seeing a 262 wing up with a formation of bombers and make sure they go to the OTHER enemy bases instead of his.

23 fighters herding a massive NOE Lanc raid directly over a CV as it's turning broadside, resulting in total loss of Lancs and zero friendly damage or casualties.

Watching that one guy in the mission fly to target inverted with the group, over the course of about 45 miles.

Landing a B-26 on one wheel after jumping a set of B-17s and killing them.

Managing to cause the Spit 16 on your 6 to auger behind you on the deck with a quick kick flip that you survived.

Deacking a flight of bombers and systematically picking off his control surfaces.

6 guys in a squad with a multi-level CAP over a CV defending it from repeated bomber attack for an hour with a 7th in a gun on the boat turning it and acting as ATC.

Watching the Rook search pattern work when CV planes are spotted far behind their lines, resulting in a dead CV within 30 minutes. Amazing to watch from the enemy team.

Shutting down an enemy vehicle base and receiving hatemail from your team, while some of them say thanks for the smoke break/potty break and salute you.

Watching FBCrabby show up in a Goon and kill 3 people on top of the enemy airfield while the ack shoots at his trademarked Meat Chaff.

Dragging a Jug M 10 sectors in a B-29 at 33k, slowing down every so often to tease him then hammering WEP and pulling away, until he runs out of gas.

Basically the real gems are the shenanigans.

Running up on an idiot in a set of bombers who thinks he's going to dogfight, and just sitting there and killing all three bombers. Then when you land the 3 kills, salute the idiot.
They really need to do something about this, the maneuvers these dummies pull would automatically disable all their gunners, and probably kill them. dogfighting bombers should equal no gunners left.

thats good stuff right there....

only my m3's dont ever die on a run that long. Keep em miles away from danger until he the time is just right.  When u have that kind of time its easy to hide in the right spot.

:D i have dogfighted in buffs. My favorite is when someone like vSix0 in his pony goes vertical while im on the deck in buffs. As soon as he starts his drop I join him in the vertical. Forward gun position, 100 50 cal rounds to his face, cap with a loop, pick up the drones. Repeat!

or the ever elusive snap roll when some wise guy attacks from 12 :D

A-20 and B-26 pilots would get in trouble quite often for getting rough with the airframes and shooting things. 5-G turns in a bomber aren't enough to knock out gunners, much less kill them. Do not forget they are generally strapped in, especially in the top, tail, and ball positions. Also do not forget that the heavies are generally very well reinforced to survive flak and enemy air contact, and hold together well between 200 and 250 miles per hour doing those maneuvers, and don't hold speed well, resulting in reduced stress on the airframe. Your points are generally invalidated by physics, bro.

Four or five people, from the same squadron, all landing kills at the same time and see them come up in the buffer.

Obviously, it's more fun if your squad is landing the kills rather than the squad that just sent you to the tower...lol
