Actually, the attack happened while the train was on Belgian soil, and the Americans involved were a member of the US Air Force, an inactive National Guard member and a civilian.

No Marines were involved, but props to the men who stopped the shooting.  :salute

USAF and National Guard and civvie stop terror attack on French train

The Marines get credit for everything but they weren't Marines as I'm sure most of us know by now. Great job the right men in the right place at the right time. We all like to think we could help foil a terrorist attack if the opportunity arises but in reality most of us would hide and hope.

It took a lot of guts to do what they did.

Yeah USAF is going to get the props for this one sorry  :D. But I have no doubt any Yank from any military service would have done the same. Jarheads may have killed the terr. I do regular checks on military centers after that last terror attack on one and its always a pleasure to talk to these young Americans wearing the uniform. My own son included.  :salute to them all.

Beating the crap out of this POS will be good for morale.

France has some of the most strict gun laws in the world yet illegal weapons outnumber legal weapons 2 to 1.
It's a testament yet again that gun laws do not always work.

Thankfully these brave men were there to run TOWARD the perp rather than away from the perp.

There is no need to derail this topic by using and use it as a ploy to express your views on gun control. A couple of points. The incident didn't happen in France, it happened in Belgium on a train from Holland on it's way to France. French gun laws are irrelevant. Illegal weapons are available anywhere. It's worth pointing out that there are far more gun massacres carried out in the USA than any other western country, mostly carried out by previously law abiding citizens with easy access to guns. That's a unique American problem. Apart from high profile terrorist attacks the risk of getting shot in Europe is infinitesimal unless you are a criminal. So step outside your glass house before throwing stones.

Far better to take pride in the fact three of your fellow Americans went unarmed to tackle a terrorist. They are real heroes.

But lets face it, we got lucky. Had this gunman known what he was doing or had those troops not been there who knows what kind of damage he could have done? I would be even more afraid on American soil where Americans are banned from their 2nd amendment rights on transportation Hubs and Police are under armed.

ISIL is a different kind of threat. They are more action then they are words and they tend to send Loons who are well armed, well trained, with battle experience, and with a plan. In the attacks they have staged even single gunman have a 1 to 1 kill/wound ratio and thats pretty damned good. Most of all when its a single shooter.

Great post. Some people just want to hijack threads to project their personal opinion, no matter what. It's a character flaw.

Yeah, the story changed quickly, from 3 Marines to 2 AF and other passengers. Guess that's how breaking news works. I posted the first alert I received. Bottom line is Americans stepped up to the plate, took down the bad guy and saved lives. Funniest thing I read was the guy screaming "Give me back my gun!" after he was taken down.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

the 3 guys knew they were in danger so they reacted.  sorry to say and it doesnt take anything away, but they reacted to save their own lives.  nothing wrong with that, on the plus side they saved a few more than their own.
