You extrapolate from your own experience and ignore all other input on the matter. Like the guy in the video who wrote the book "Why programmers work at night". OK, that's fine I guess, but it smells like hubris.

My own experience is far more reaching that the Youtube authors is.  If you would rather take his word for anything it is your choice.  I see it more like the blind leading the blind.  There certainly is a market for that.

The difference between you and I, in this matter, is I can speak with fact and certainty, while you have to lean on something you find on the Internet.

Mistaking overwhelming knowledge for hubris is a common error as anyone with a firm grasp on any given topic can speak with authority on those topics.

There is no way this guy or gal driving around the rotary knew that you could go around again, probably unfamiliar with them or unfamiliar with the area, he was causing such a hazard by backing up..

Music City Center Roundabout

The statue "Musica" in the center of this Roundabout on Music Row is quite interesting.

This is the rule:

Sec. 545.154.  VEHICLE ENTERING OR LEAVING LIMITED-ACCESS OR CONTROLLED-ACCESS HIGHWAY.  An operator on an access or feeder road of a limited-access or controlled-access highway shall yield the right-of-way to a vehicle entering or about to enter the access or feeder road from the highway, or leaving or about to leave the access or feeder road to enter the highway.

You are not interpreting that correctly.  Allow me to replace the legal terms with more common terms.  It might make it clearer.

An operator on a frontage road of a freeway shall yield the right-of-way to a vehicle entering or about to enter the frontage road from the freeway, or leaving or about to leave the frontage road to enter the freeway.

Does that make more sense?  The first case talks about the traffic on the frontage road having to yield to traffic exiting a freeway, while the last case talks about on ramp traffic yielding to the freeway traffic.

You should write a book about it. Improve mankind with your overwhelming knowledge.

Sarcasm, really?  Is that how you move a conversation forward?  Interesting and telling at the same time.

I freely joined the conversation.  If someone wants to ignore input on a matter then who am I to argue with that choice?  Like I said, it was telling.

do you need to show ID to gain access to a limited-access or controlled-access highway?  and where would I get one? a limited access or controlled access highway reminds me of a guard with a rifle, make it sure only the people with proper permits gets in.

I remember when I took my test for a driving permit back in '82.  had been in the country for about 1 1/2 years, the lady insisted on giving me the written test in spanish.  I took one look at the test and I handed it back confused as I thought she was gonna give me a test written in spanish.  she told me that was spanish, I said no it isnt, I can read and write spanish and I can tell you that is for sure not spanish.  I asked for the one in english and passed it.

Semp, the terms limited access or controlled access are simply legal terms for a freeway.

Freeways have limited or controlled access via on ramps.

Interesting reading, this topic...

As for making dumb things in traffic, my dad scared the crap out of me starting to back up on a one way ramp. Until that I had considered him to be an above average driver with lots of experience in different countries. Maybe it was because he was driving my car as I was watching and judging, we had a schedule although we weren't in a hurry, it was our second father-son trip ever which may have excited him, it was quite hot so he might've been a little dehydrated, he was already above 70... A misjudgement of the situation in any case. Or as my mom said after I got my license: No matter how good a driver you may be, or how well you know all of the rules, there's always someone who for some reason doesn't drive as expected.

@ semp: Was that some kind of Google translator Spanish, or was it in an entirely different language like French or Portuguese? Or just a different version of Spanish, like Latin American vs. European Spanish?

I was referring to the following post you made.

I think the confusion on right of way is that, at least here, the vehicle entering a freeway has the right of way.<snip>

I took it to mean you interpreted the law to read that way.  My mistake for that.

Where do you live that it is that way?

Not to speak for Milo but he's a canuk like me,we live in same province but are about the size of texas apart..... :devil

They installed a roundabout in my city a couple years ago,it's been so successful the city has put several others in!

Sure it took awhile to get used to but I use it all the time and I beleive it saves time as I rarely need to stop, simple slow and enter when safe and be on my way. A stop light may be slightly safer but ties up traffic and cause long lines and frustrated drivers who are much more important than you and do silly things that cause accidents.

Man I miss riding a bike, traffic seldom bothered me in those days...... :D

So I guess that the terms: Roundabouts, Traffic Circle or Rotary refer to different types of traffic semaphores.  :old:

For anyone interested here is what I dug up about Roundabouts, Traffic Circles and Rotaries IN THE US.  (A word of caution, other countries appear to have different definitions and different rules!)

Also, after I saw this:

Ah but sys a 4 way stop is not a traffic light!

I might add that the city did put these roundabouts at and near the rail system and that in itself removed congestion when trains have to run.

They may not be perfect but they function once people know how to use them and I find I'm never held up waiting on a light or a train.
