playing from afghanistan
« on: September 26, 2015, 12:44:49 PM »
so ive been here awhile and Im just curious how the game will behave from about 250 ping. Any insight will help. Most games I can play like war thunder and WoT as well as Bf4 so Im hoping I wont have too much an issue.

Skuzzy states....

Let me start by dispelling some myths.

1) Your ping is some what irrelevant to the servers. If it is below 300ms, then you are golden. I see complaints from people complaining about their ping going from 10 to 60. To Aces High, you have the same connection at those rates.
However, the best connection is one that is steady without wide swings in the packet latencies.

When you attack somebody it will be normal. When you get attacked the bandit will have a better shot than he appears to have. This is because the bandit is shooting you on his PC where his aircraft is ahead of the position you see on your PC and your aircraft is behind the position you see on your PC.

In short, offense is no problem. Defense needs an early response.

This is always true for all players but the effect is greater as ping time increases.

No doubt guys. The only problem I see on my end is when Im flying it seems like the game is choppy at a steady 75 fps. Other than that it's great. Mbailey yeah I thought I was dead you only slaughtered my right tire haha. Thanks Wizz. Anyways guys Ill see you in the skies maybe. The time difference sucks haha

This explains a mystery that has confused and frustrated me for a long time.  I just couldn't connect the dots.

Great thread.

It's the same thing that confuses people about collisions.

In this case it's the bullets and shells "colliding" with your aircraft on someone else's PC while it looks like they will miss. A normal shot for the bandit may look impossible from your end depending on the travel time of both your connections.

It's important to note that the advantage is not to the player with the better or worse connection. The advantage is to the offensive player over the defensive player.

A small addition to FLS's comment people may or may not see applies.  This also means the enemy's bullets you see that miss is only an approximation on your end.  The only thing enemy vehicles' tracers tell you with certainty is that he's firing.  The location of the tracers is only approximate.

Unmanned ack however what you see is what you get.  Now that I think about it, I assume AI fire should be what you see is what you get too, right?  Wouldn't it be calculated on your FE?

I think the tracers are accurate in location, if you're hit they're indicating the difference in your location on the bandit's PC. It seems approximate because we see time and location together as movement but we also have our own "special relativity" where time and location are separated by the travel time of the internet traffic.
