Flaws? You think this country has gotten where it is, with your attitude? Hah! check and see what this country has done for the world as whole over the years and be honest with yourself, and we would not have been able to do the things we have done for the world as whole, if we were not free people and had the guns to back up our good will attitude! Without guns, we would either be speaking German or Japanese right now! Of course, people of your cloth tend to forget little details like that!
Other than the Revolutionary War, during what period of time has personally owned weapons secured another country's freedom, Earl? Your point is not valid. Most of the recent mass murders were done with legal firearms, and the fact IS that the US, with legal arms, has 10 times or more the murder rate with firearms than any country that has stricter controls. Firearms in the US comprise more deaths that drugs, terrorism and several other factors combined. Other than the perceived "right" to own guns, which in my opinion, the US Supreme Court got wrong, since the clause specifically says" a well armed MILITIA " the need for excessive amounts and types of guns is ridiculous and has only contributed to a Wild West mentality that didn't even exist during the Wild West. Military style weapons have no purpose, and enormous sized clips are not needed. Frankly, if you can't kill or stop someone with a 7 or 9 shot clip, you shouldn't own a freaking weapon.Controls and more responsibility and punishment for those who own legal weapons and misuse them, or allow them into the hands of children by refusal to lock up and LOCK the weapons are needed. Anyone whose gun is allowed into the hands of a child and results in death should require the death penalty for the owner of the weapon. When an 11 YO boy can shoot an 8 YO girl because she wouldn't let him see her puppy something is terribly wrong.
