Ordnance for the Il-2
« on: October 19, 2015, 10:51:59 AM »
Since the Il-2 used PTAB anti tank bomblets (carried 200 of them), I wish they could be added. From what I have read, they were small but effective.

If you didn't get your self commander mode skeet shot out of the sky, the attack run was very low so the PTABs wouldn't end up all over the place. From the short clip below, we would see a small number of Il2 hero's flying NOE to carpet vulch runways for the 200 whine factor.

Some humans have more webbing between their fingers and toes but we don't have UDT frogmen either. You should target Hitech with your imperious demands while holding your breath until you turn purple.

Here I will help:

Dear Mr. Hitech,

shilo demands PTAB for the Il2 or he will hold his breath in protest.

It would be nice if in the next version we have more of an ordnance option for planes like the PTAB for the IL2, or the M29 for US planes and the Butterfly Bomb for Axis planes.

I understand the attraction for the PTAB as a mass low level carpet munitions against GV and vulching runways. In all of these years we have never seemed to get Hitech to comment on them let alone introduce them. The other two are anti-personnel sub-munitions. So is the plan to salt our own map rooms with these and put an end to troops capturing things?

I suppose if he ever introduces FPS ground combat, we will have to check under our seats and all the bush's around every town and spawn for bomb surprises left by the kiddies. Then we just fly around salting the heck out of every thing with Butter Fly bombs and M29 versus doing any air combat. Will the sub-munitions go off and tower them instantly, or will two guys have to drag their one legged body back to a pickup point?

Just remember, the kiddies will want bouncing bettys and other leave and forget nastiness after they spawn into a field of sub-munitions we dropped from the air.

The M29 and Butterfly Bombs were also used against unarmored and lightly armored vehicles, not just as anti-personnel bombs.

Why are you against adding more ordnance options for our planes?

It could be argued the the PTAB made the Il2 the tank killer it was..........

Just as the Merlin made the P51D.......

Both essential components to their effectiveness.......

PTAB is whenever Hiech decides he wants to put up with it and the whines. Anti personnel munitions and anything IED like has a worldwide stigma with countries still loosing people to them. In the same vein as nukes, not sure Hitech would want that stigma. This game seems to steer a fine line when it comes to how we look blowing things up. I've always gotten the impression Hitech has a line he will not cross.

I've read the same account translated on other sites talking about IL2 and PTAB.

In our game the PTAB would become the counter to getting too close to tanks and wirbles. Dive bomb from 3000-5000ft with a package of how ever many gets released with each drop. Odds are one will drop in the wirbel turret or onto a tank. Then fly away without ever risking anything. Much easier than aiming a single larger bomb or the very inaccurate rockets. And you still have your 37mm's for 2-3 more GV after several passes of that.

This could result in the same complaints from GVers before the icon range was shortened and they got the commander mode. Back then tanks from the T34 and lesser were rolling ducks for an Il2's 37mm. Now if the PTAB was also updated to at least one Yak version, carpet bombing runway spawns would become a new sport. You can barely see any Yak zooming through the bushes when it hides it's icon. A new way for Airjer to harass CV groups. That Yak would become a super rapid response killer for base defense against GV.

I can see a mass fun mission where a whole squad fly's IL2 in formation over a wirbel infested GV base releasing PTABs like rain. Ch200 would get lively.....

200: Unhappy  They P'd on us again. What was Hitech thinking this time.......
200: bustr  blame ack ack, he convinced Hitech it would be gooood for us hehehehehe
200: Unhappy why don't you fly down here like a man
200: bustr wirbles hurt and owwwie my plane
200: Unhappy COWARD
200: bustr PTAB ALERT ;-P

Just remember, Il-2 could carry up to 192. Hey the Po-2 could carry PTAB. Now that would be one way to spot GV in CraterMA.
