I have the Warthog HOTAS which I use with Saitek Pro Pedals.  Use them for Elite: Dangerous as well as AH.   :aok

Best joystick for the money control wise is the T1600.

For added buttons, the thrustmaster cougar panel is great.  Split a pack with a friend or sell one.

I've used CH products for several years , throttle , stick and pedals durable , but also I am hard on my stick for some reason  :aok. 8 months ago purchased the X55 , I would have purchased it just for the throttle alone , it's easy to access to dials that let me trim as I go found that to be great  . Also if you don't have rudders the joystick has a Z rotation ( twisty ) you can allocate for rudders , had them for  8 months as still keep calibration great and is also little lest tan the CH product . Any Q PM me glad to help .. :salute

its also quite larger than the CH set up , here a pic of the throttle .

Wow! This dude really did build his own cockpit lol.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of all the hat switches either. 2 is fine. I think I'm gearing on the combatstick. Does the button on the side pointy finger change profiles or can it be used as a button as well?

Yes you can use all the buttons and programming in the game I also use the hat switch as buttons for the map and zoom because I have TrackIR and don't need any hats witches. I used the in-game to program it don't use any of the software. Give me a shout on our squad forms and I'll give you a call about it

I use CH Products. But my fighter stick started having trouble going into it's second decade of use. Almost useless now. But the pro throttle and pedals are still going strong. So I am looking around for a replacement stick. Tried a combat stick. It started having troubles after a month. If I thought the HOTAS system would last 5 years or more I wouldn't hesitate plunking down a few hundred on one.

@ alskahawk, if your throttle and pedals are still serving you well enough, why not try a TM t.16000 with them? Might be worth the $50.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

I used CH products for years.  Now my fighter stick and throttle are backups for the X55 setup.

I've had the X55 for over a year.  I learned how to program them (Frooglesim video was quite helpful).

They hold calibration quite well.  I keep them clean and use a non-petroleum lubricant on the joystick (spring base) which keeps it smooth as silk.

The X55 has tons of buttons and three modes.  In AH every one of them is used for something.  In terms of capabilities, both set-ups are pretty even, but I now prefer the X55 and will only change back over to CH in an emergency.

If I wanted the best stick and throttle (response and accuracy) I would be looking units that don't use pan potentiometers.  Since those will bust my budget, I'm not looking.

I recommend the Saitek unit, based on my experience with them.  I believe mine came with a two-year warranty, but you will want to confirm that.

Chalenge,

Wow.  The Huey video was awesome.

I only watched the video, but I'll be looking at this closer in the future.  I'm sure it's way out of my price range now.  Watching the 'blind man's bluff' with the Oculus caused me for 'fear for my beer'.  That technology still leaves me a little cold.  I need to have 'complete' SA when my wife is around.  :::Ducks:::

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that even high res with the Oculus is worse than I can get with a 6k projector like the Titan HD:
