Greebo, it's satire......

The conventional wisdom that the "man" in Texas should have a team making maps instead of using us poor deluded LiL'ol players..... :O

Hey they think we are being used by Hitech Greebo.........weeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeee

My thought is they just don't have to press the save button when I post up the package to help new players practice their gunnery since it was made in an sweat shop by a deluded old fart who could give a derp......

He has a flare for the dramatic.

He is exactly who he is complaining about, just on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Irrational complaining or irrational cheerleading really end up being just about the same thing.

OK, I'm being a bit dumb today, went right over my head. You might have done better though to address the post to the targets of your satire than to me.

Sorry.....

If they want to see why player built maps are a great resource for Aces High, they should load the beta and your AH3 CraterMA. If Hitech had to pay someone to make terrains for AH3 to the quality your CrateMA is, we would have to pay $30 a month.

Why is this our responsibility?

Shouldn't Hitech be able to generate maps?

It's not our responsibility.  But as you can see from some of the responses, there are some who really enjoy it.

That's not my point.

I enjoy making skins.  So I get it.

But HTC does this for a living so I would suspect he knows how to crank out a map quickly and efficiently.   So why is that not happening?

Also we have *TONS* of maps for scenarios and such.   These should be adapted to the MA and thrown in the rotation.   It isn't "rocket surgery" to do that at the least.

Yes it is, in some cases. Scenario maps don't have all the elements that MUST be in the main arena maps. They sometimes have customs objects (which are NOT allowed in MAs), they sometimes don't have strat systems, or HQs and such because they are not "needed" for the scenario, but MUST be in the MAs as another target for players. Size wise they are very often much to small for the population you can get in the MAs, as well as they have only 2 sides in most cases. Bases may too close, or too far away from others, which is all fine and dandy for-filling the needs of the scenario they are running, but which would be horrible in the MAs.

As for HTC making maps, what do you think they are doing between releases? As soon as they release AH3 they will begin working on AH3.1. If they stopped working on the game to make maps..... which even for HTC still take months to build and test.... it would put AH3.1 that much farther down the road.

Making an MA map is not a quick thing to do for HTC or anyone else to do. Apart from creating hundreds of square miles of terrain elevations and painting it all with textures there are hundreds of objects like fields, fleets, strats, spawn points and roads that all have to be placed by hand. I have begun making another MA terrain, but modifying CraterMA is the priority at the moment.

No its not. For bases too close or too far away, they have to each be moved individually. The terrain they sit on has to be correct so you cant just throw them anywhere.

Adding a third country means either reassigning all the bases to rearrange the country alliance, or adding in a whole bunch of bases for the third country.

Adding HQ and strats entails more than just dropping them in place they have to be tied into the strat system.

What your saying is just like you have a finished skin and you compile it ready to send it in. You lose all your work files and layers and have only the flatten image left. Skuzzy asks you to move one line of rivet down 2 pixels. Piece of cake right, just move a bunch of dots. But now, with out all the other files it becomes a major project all over again. Thats what editing a map is like. It takes almost as much time to "edit" a map as it does to build one from scratch.

It's not "just do it".

Blah blah blah.

I've flown those maps and they would be a nice change.   This is not landing on the moon.   They're an untapped resource at a time when such things are in desperate need.

Also, quite frankly, a non-strat map wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit.

Problem solved, just go into the AvA. Folks will show up if they see someone in there but remember to play nice and not run them off.
