Sucks...
I didn't realize how much process it is. "Required 5 years experience" Experience is what im trying to achieve! 
I was told by my father that when he was a little older than me he had stuffed over 200 preprinted envelope's with his resume before he got his job, i laughed not because it was funny but i believed him. I almost wish it was that simple nowadays. Filling out dozens of online applications and it seems like your being interviewed without ever being looked at. I understand the convenience but i would want a face to face.       

Anyone feeling the struggle?

I've noticed the same as I am starting to look around at jobs. The "entry level" jobs require a 4 year degree (no problem) AND 2-5 years of experience...now what is entry level about that?

The sad part is if you are white and male you are the bottom of everyone's list.  Most major companies like Intel openly declare they will place a greater value for employment and promotions on females and minorities.   I try not to buy any intel products.

I'm currently looking for work after moving to Miami a couple of weeks ago. Will hopefully have a job here in the next week.

My advice is to seach for reputable recruiting services in your area. Get in contact with an agent and send them your resume. I am currently working with Robert Half, and have received 3 interviews from them in the past week. They do all the work for you. If you have a nice linkedin account, you can also job search and make connections there.

Asking for job experience is nothing new. Back in the early '70 at an interview was asked how much experience I had, said none as was fresh out of school, told sorry no job. Asked the interviewer how I was suppose to get experience if I wasn't hired. Got a hum haw for an answer.

What they have found is that those who go into the workforce instead of college gain the experience and move up in the job. They want college grads but do not want to have to train them. They expect the college grad to be able to work on the level of a person who has 4 years experience in the actual field of work. Not going to happen. Once they can't fill that position with an American soul then they can bring in a non-American and get him a work visa.

I second this advice. My wife is a recruiter for Randstad. Recruiters have connections and reputations for sending good candidates. They can help immensely just by making sure your resume is looked at (some places probably get 100s).

when I used to work at the insurance company.  after I got divorced in the late 90's we had lots of temps, college kids working for us at 9 dollars an hour.  full time employees started at 18 back then, I was a senior account administrator, making close to 30.

we hired only those freshly out of college and never anybody over 30.  the thing that bother me is not that we would hire the most qualified but we would hire those that "could fit in".  in other words we hired people with good looks that dressed nice.

most of the time those we hired didnt even know how to use a stapler, but they could talk big about how they were going to save the company.

that still bothers me to this day.  when I moved from NC to sou cal, I went thru the same thing.  applied for an office job every where.  never found one.  had an interview once with a girl about 25, who told me I had more experience that she did.  I didnt get the job.

Bro, I am a 33 year old Veteran with a college degree, about to finally receive disability and I have been trying for a year to get full-time employment. I have been through recruiting agencies, even those who claim veterans preference, Nothing.....   I feel your pain.

I live in so cal riverside county so I know exactly what your talking about. In my feild im discovering the opposite. It seems people working in the same hanger 20+ years never leave thus have a trustworthy staff. Despite the abundance of employment propaganda school gave me...
