So is this like a quick match? Random planes assigned? That could be cool..

It does need further testing,  I'd like to know if 5 guys are waiting how does it pick who fights etc,  do they come out of different air spawns?

Everytime I logged into it was just me.    :(

same here.  why launch a 1 vs 0?

i want this to work.  what is this, i dont know.  the ideal would be customizable, even, fair, and automatic and user controlled.  :old:

I haven't tried it yet, but have a couple ideas - to expand on NatCigs last points...

Would it be possible to have the option to air spawn, and select both the distance from the opponent and the altitude of the fight?  Obviously there would have to be some sort of agreement algorithm or some way for players to quickly negotiate these decisions, but I think it would add to this already great idea for an arena.  My reason is this - in the DA, launching from the opposing bases as they stand now, a majority of the time of each fight is spent just in transit (not all the time, I realize some fights between = skill players last longer, but a great many don't), during which time players climb to pre agreed alt if it is different than the base alt, as well as gain speed.  Even after that, most of the time is spent just nose on and waiting to close the distance.

If airspawning at say d6.0 at x altitude and y/z speeds were possible, the time spent actually FIGHTING/Training/etc, not just flying straight and level at the opponent waiting to close, would be drastically increased.  This -as an option - would make training and duels a far, far more efficient proposition.  In a 20 minute session I bet you could get in 2x as many fights or even more, compared to the way it works in the DA now, and if you still wanted to do it the "old" way from takeoff, have that as an option as well.

I can't wait to try this arena out, especially if it gets populated with a bunch of players, I think it has great potential as both a training tool to improve skills of all levels of players, as well as create "a league of its own" so to speak.

Although I love this idea, I hope the regular DA will still exist as it does now (some minor tweaks, such as 30k airstarts with 30k of sky beneath the fight would be welcome).

Getting a group of people on one channel and messing around is one of my favorite things to do and I can't see how this 1v1 arena could possibly be as flexible as that.

I was up until 3 a.m. Saturday having a ball trying out all sorts of plane matchups with my squad and others. I hope to be able to continue doing that!

1. It puts you in a que when you enter the O Club. I used the oclub as a place holder to enter the que, how it's done in the end may change.

2. The current mission is simply set up for 6 spawn points that it cycles thew with each new match.  It is not difficult to add more.

3. The spawn by yourself is simply a last minute fail safe to the system. I didn't get it all working until about 15 mins before the end of the day Friday and wanted to make sure the cycling didn't get hung up.

Will it be possible to choose your own aircraft before you join the queue?

Not presently.  The current beta setup is a P51 v Ki84.  The selection of aircraft is random.  So, you might spawn in 3 times in a row in a pony or visa versa, but eventually should even out the odds.

The key is to have someone going to the arena with you that knows the deal on how to spawn and what to expect.  I have wasted time with opponents that never respond and simply bail before engaging, everytime they spawn.

I went there with HiTech once, and got pwnd  :joystick:  Wish I could have shared it ....   it was great fun as he picked my planes apart piece by piece.

Is the intention in the long-run that you can indicate your plane choice?

No but I plan on a much more random match ups instead of just ki v p51.

Of course I don't know how the architecture of this arena looks because I'm unable to run the new version. I think there'd be three configurations to make this perfect:

1 - The random matchup you are proposing, very nice interesting idea.

2 - A random SAME PLANE matchup. a truly specialised Duelling Arena, next planes = {109G-14, F4U-4, Spit9, etc} - I'm sure this would be very popular especially amongst a lot of the old-hands and duellists.

3 - A specialist's matchup, where you sit in a queue in a chosen aircraft and so does your opponent: nrshida (Ki-84), Bruv119 (Spit8), SIMON (F4U-1), Vudu15 (Ki-43) etc. That would be really challenging in a plane and pilot combination dimension.

I'm assuming the random list can be moved through quite quickly by rejecting the suggestion. Practically players would do this anyway by just bailing I should imagine.

To be honest if this arena is persistent I think I'd be spending 80% of my AH time in there. HiTech have you seen MickyD's 1-on-1 map?

Just a few ancillary ideas to throw in for no more than creative possibilities:

1 - Players waiting could be viewing the ongoing fights in some kind of pod-racer grandstand (instead of waiting in the tower) so that waiting would be less boring and you could watch and learn.
2 - Verying altitude queues just like MickyD's arena
3 - Rotating or varied terrain: desert, jungle, European, winter, night-time, ocean, city. Maybe these could be selected accord to the plane matchup.
4 - High score table persistent in the arena. Not a major focus for everybody but might attract some competitive players.
5 - Player versus bot matchup, even if the bot is a bit clunky or systematic in his merges it might help new players develop merges and more experienced players stay in shape and experiment.
6 - Personal stats data, viewed by the player only about accuracy, matchup results etc.
