Lyric,

In one of your links we see "REGGIE'S REPLY" on Godfrey's P-47.    Do we have anything that shows it on his P-51B?

No nothing online looking at some of my books to see if anything may be tucked away in them.

He is one of the best P-51 artists out there, I have never saw anything incorrect in any of his paintings.

I am aiming for this one (mine is signed by Goodson and sits next to my desk).

I really LOVE this painting.  Wish I could find a good shot of it.

The problem is I have nothing that shows "REGGIE'S REPLY" on his P-51B.    If I could find evidence one way or the other it would sure help.

Can I get some feedback on the red color I am using?   It's not right but I am unable to put my finger on why.

After staring at the same image for hours and hours my ability to judge hues starts to fail me.

The red looks ok to me. Try the red I recommended for the fuel caps and see how that strikes your fancy.

The problem with all the primary colors is that is too easy to use a hue which is too bold. Your red is not too bad in this regard.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the fuel caps.   These are still my old shade.   Good catch.  Thanks, man.    :salute

The fuel caps look better, but the fuel stain behind it still looks odd.

did you adjust anything else?

Haven't had much time at all.  Fixed the nose art adding the diagonal to the top of the forward section...

That's about all I have been able to get at.

I will take a look at your fuel stains and see if I can garner something from that.

How widespread were red wheels on 4th FG B Mustangs?

I can't find any photos of Godfrey's plane that show the wheels...but Gentile's were red.

Thoughts?

Kid Hofer had red wheels but his was a NMF B model...

VF*D is a an OD B that had them...

Don Blakeslee's D had red wheels...

Plenty do and plenty don't it seems.

Here's a tip I've seen from many in the plastic modelling field: paint what you see; if you can't see it, then paint what is likely there; and if that fails, then paint what you like and let your critics prove you wrong.
