Build a survival kit
« on: May 01, 2016, 05:22:02 PM »
Been watching some vids about survival kits and I saw a lot of foowels giving dumb information, dumb arse tacticool/prepper types. Dudes that pack a fire steel (and that's good) a bunch of damn jumbo water proof matches, spend hours making some weird homemade tinder yet NO BIC LIGHTER IN THEIR KIT! One dude was like I don't pack water purification tabs because I'll just boil the water. Oh really? What are you going to boil it in dumb arse? Your altoids tin?

So. What would you put in your survival kit and what would you put it in?

Ok but this thread is about survival kits not how many spare socks you carry in a backpack.

If need to walk 3 days somewhere using your survival pack, you might like a spare set of socks just in case, and also you can in a pinch use them to keep your hands warmer.

Have you ever gone on a multi-day hike?

Actually, in your survival kit, you really need only socks.

Not only can you wear them, but you can make boiled socks, fried socks, socks thermadore, sock casserole, etc.; you can filter water through them; you can burn them for warmth; you can rub them together to generate fire; you an wipe with them; you can use them as bandages or tourniquets; you can leave bits of them behind to mark your trail; and so on.

After some thought, it seems that survival is all about socks.

a survival kit is just a waste of money.  I'll buy one when I actually need one.  there will be at least a couple of months advance warning.

you buy one now, you are actually paranoid.  and yes, the goverment is spying on you.

I actually respect "preppers" for their forethought and commitment to keeping their families safe. If you do believe that something terrible is likely to happen where you live in your lifetime, be it an economic collapse, war, natural disaster, or another catastrophe you'd be a fool not to prepare for it.

Somewhat on topic.  A suggestion.  It always a good idea to have on hand, at home, a few days worth of food like canned food or dried foods.  To keep these fresh, each year, donate, the food to your local food band then resupply.
