nVidia confirms it is unveiling new Pascal GPUs tomorrow
« on: May 05, 2016, 05:52:37 PM »
Should be interesting.  I was hoping the rumors of the "ti" card coming out with the x80 and x70 were true, looks like they aren't.  Guess it'll be the 1080x or whatever they call it first for me, until the ti comes out in 2017.

Yeah, I'll watch it live, but I'm not interested in the GDDR5X version unless I have a card meltdown. I'm not saying that I won't 'help' a card fail, but it's the HBM2 cards I want.

EDIT: Man, that 8GB of ram is mighty tempting!

Things I will be looking for:

1) an answer to the 'W' question concerning HBM2 cards
2) an estimate on which card to get, or long it will be before we have a 4k card (4096x2160p) capable of 144fps

They just said that the 1080 is faster, insanely faster, than a current 980ti SLI.  On its own.  We'll see I guess.  It's faster by far than any of the Titans as well by a huge factor they said.  That's just for starters.  Using much less power too.  Good times.  They're under production right now, the 1070 too, and will launch in June.  Yay.'

The card in the room when doing some redering/etc tests was at 67 degrees, and running at...2.1ghz...on air cooling.  Crazy.

Did they say 980Ti, or 980? if 980Tis, that's insane!

The Epic show reel sold me on the ability to realize human skin. I might have to readjust and get a 1080 after all. I really want that HBM2 though.

Sounds exciting. Will these cards support the PCIe 2.0 x 16 slot on my 2 year old mother board?  :pray

First thing I said too Chalenge, the 1070 pricing which will beat the Titan/980ti should put a lot of guys into range for some high performance in this game and everything else.  The 1080 specs...are nuts.  Imagine what the ti will bring, and then the HBM2.  And, if AMD stuff matches the rumors too...wow great year for PC gaming.  Very happy surprise after the Thrustmaster disappointment.

The 1080  officially smashes 2 980s in SLI, and that' just at the 1733 boost rate - they easily overclocked on stage on AIR, not water, to 2.1 ghz...blown away, frankly.  The 980ti sli will be beat as well, just not "smashed" as the 980sli is, which in my experience, isn't much off the 980ti s in sli anyhow.  The 1070 smoking the Titan/98o ti as well at stock speeds....this is just fantastic news, and it's only going to get better.  Extremely fair pricing too.  Big time.  I'm impressed with nvidia, walking the walk.

Cards are out to retail on June 10th, they are punching em out right now.  I'm going to build a micro box rig with a 1070, it'll be able to play pretty much everything I have anyhow, and will be a neat little project.  Of course, 2 1080s are going into my 6700 box and 5960x as well, unless Broadwell E pops soon too, then I'll just build that instead.

For guys with VR, the 1080 in the demo proved to be 3x faster than the current fastest card.  That is an insane figure IMO, I sorta don't believe it until I see it myself.  If that's true...

Well, if you are going to do VR then the 1080 is the way to go. I see some things in the numbers that Nvidia has released that make its performance in games like AHIII a little suspect. Can it outperform the GTX 980 SLI in AHIII? I think the answer is that the results would be very close. In other words, I want to see Anandtech bench these cards before I buy one. That's not to say that everyone should wait, after all if you are in the market for a 970, then the GTX 1070 is the logical move. The problem is that the GTX 980 is so overpriced on Amazon now that it's literally cheaper to buy the 1080. Perhaps the next few weeks will make a difference.

I'm back to waiting for the HBM2 memory, and I won't be doing VR until they get the bifocal blur worked out. If I do make a move before HBM2 it will be for two 1070s in SLI. That's already more power than any game needs.

Oh, I thought the Broadwell Es were going to be out first week of June?

Thanks guys.

According to the last block of this (later?) article May 27th for 1080 the the 1070 following in June.
http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-launch/

I'll wait for a factory overclocked 1070 from a trustworthy vendor. I need time to save up the coin for it anyway.

If you see a noteworthy sale on such a card, please let us know.
Easy in-game again.

You're right Easycor, I didn't see the 1080 release date, just the 1070, even better news.

Chalenge, I haven't seen any release dates for B-E, I've been hoping it would be simultaneous with Pascal, just for my own reasons, but first week in June would absolutely work for me.

Nvidia has rendered their entire current line up obsolete with their secondary 1070 card.  If I wasn't so impressed with the news of the new 10 series cards, I'd have mixed feelings, having a full handful of 2 980ti, 2 980s, and a Titan right now whose trade/resale value is certainly going to be less than what I thought.  The good news out of that is all of those cards including the 970 will run this particular game and its upcoming version very well, better than very well in fact.  With  the hype over the new 1080/1070 cards, many, many used cards will hit the market.  So, cruising the used/for sale forums of various gaming boards and local bargain finder papers/online sites, will help a lot more players get faster GPUs for a lot less $ now.

Some pics/vid of 2 1080 in SLI near the end of this video, the new SLI bridge looks good, I've been waiting for them to make something a little better in this regard than current options.
