Trackir
« on: May 17, 2016, 08:36:51 AM »
I will have a Trackir running for the first time this weekend. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. I have never used an IR device. I looked through the threads already. Do folks use it in GV or just AC. Also when setting up can one adjust the check six position for the best amount of view?
I am getting the Trackir 5 bundle.

Running I5 3.2 G with 8mg ram plus GTX-950

Start with roll off until you get used to the system.   Spend a bit of time trying different curves including making your own.  Include in your experiments the SPEED slider.  Experiment, experiment, experiment.

Some use low curves and high SPEED setting.  I use high peak curves and slow SPEED setting.

I use it in all planes and GVs.  The only place it will not work is in the 17 pounder field gun.

Use the display 3D head in the software to get a good idea how it works.

You know you have it when you have no idea you are using the trackir.

Best add on you can buy.

Super for the P-38.

Ask Semp/Guncrasher for his profile, I've tried many, and IMO his is probably the best, and easiest to learn with and get used to.  It's here in this forum someplace, the d/l link, I'll see if I can find it again.

Hmm...  Can't seem to find a link to Fugi's big zip file o' profiles.  Hopefully someone will be along with a link to some.

In any case, I personally don't agree with turning off roll, but the rest of Randy's post is dead on.  In my opinion though if you're going to use roll, ONLY use a 1:1 curve on it.  Anything else will feel really weird.

If you don't like the way it's working fiddle with it.  It is the single most personal setting in the game as far as I'm concerned.  If you're not happy with how it's moving, it will continue to bug you until you fix it, at least that's what I've found.

I use steep curves, don't recall ever fiddling with any of the settings from default.  Any changes I've made I've done with the curves.

Also, there's a setting in Aces High called TrackIR relative move or something along those lines.  If you look backwards in game and move your head side to side and it moves the wrong way, toggle that setting and it will.

Wiley.
If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

Have a waste basket nearby in case you get dizzy.  I'll post a link to the profile when I get home.

Wiley.

I played with TrackIR a little today and I remember having the difficulty Wiley describes above when I first starting using it.  There is a checkbox in the TrackIR profile screen too, "TrueView", that must be checked in addition to the "TrackIR Object Relative Movement" in AH, or you can't get the correct head motion when looking backward.

It seems more immersive than using the hat switch for sure, though I think the hat switch "Instant" setting with optimized head positions for each view has a speed advantage over TrackIR.

In the TrackIR application if you reduce it to yaw and pitch only, this will inherit your saved 6 views and only track like using mouse view. It will cause the least vertigo and allow you to get used to using your head to control the views.

One other important point.  Save your profiles like Nosara1 then Nosara2 and so forth as you start getting close to good setup.  That way you can back track if you get off the path.  Then backup your final profile.

Two things you want to do.

Set some deadband for all axis so you don't have to hold your head still to have a steady view.

Map a convenient button to recenter TrackIR. Use this button dynamically. For example if you have to look up in an extended rolling scissors try looking down and recentering your view, then you can look up for the whole fight without neck strain. When you want to recenter normally close your eyes and relax with good posture then hit recenter.

here's a link to my profile.  there's already a dead band so if you move your head a little it wont matter.  also set speed to 1.  or you will be dizzy for days

Here are the ones I have been collecting. Unzip them to the profiles folder in the TrackIR folder. When you start the TrackIR program go to profiles and you will see all those added listed by the players name that made it.

Great info!
My main isuue is avoiding the massive head rest when I look back. Also my saved instant views are not available when IR is on. Thoughts?
In the mean time I will down load the settings.

Also, I play in a rocking chair and found that does not work

To avoid (or at least minimize) the headrest, I find I have to move my ahead forward, toward the screen, and a little bit to one side when I look backward.  This works for most planes, but some a/c's (especially the Grummans') rear views are pretty lousy with TrackIR.

Using the hat view system, you could set your head position for the rear views to really minimize the blockage from the headrest, and then snap to that view instantaneously.   Can't do that with TrackIR, though it feels more realistic.

When I ran ir last pm the hat views were not in the saved position. When ir off they were in my standard settings. Trying to find a way to reenable them to my setting for snap view to override ir.

That sounds interesting, im trying to have the preset snap available to over ride ir for the larger fov for the six position.
There always seems to be someone there.  :uhoh
