Pie in the Sky
« on: May 18, 2016, 04:52:29 PM »
OK

Heres the question,
DIY home build, no $ limit, a rig that can do any task>game>vid or audio edit> server. I would go Intel, Gigabyte, Kingston, OCZ for manufacturer choices.

What would you put together? Your rig if you could just have everything you desire.

ASROCK X99 Taichi, INTEL i7 6850@4.5GHz, GIGABYTE GTX 1070G1, Kingston HyperX 3000MHz DDR4, OCZ 256GB RD400, Seasonic 750W PSU, SONY BRAVIA 48W600B, Windows 10 Pro /64

I guess I should have specified practical, do-able at a laymans level.

Please real responses. I'm thinking about a new build and might as well aim high and settle...................

NO Ally's mine.

I like Intel, MSI mainboard, Corsair for ram and ssd, nvidia and whatever is best at the time for sound.

Brands I favor (desktop and server are very different);

Intel (server/desktop), Noctua (server/desktop), ASUS Motherboards (desktop), Fractal Design case (desktop), Supermicro Case/Power Supply/Motherboard (server), Seasonic (server/desktop), Seagate HD's (server/desktop), GSkill RAM (desktop), and Kingston RAM (server).

ASUS dual socket WS MB. MAXIMUM memory off of the ASUS QVL list, Intel CPU (Xeon E7-8893), Green GPUs, Seasonic PSU, X7 (although Nvidia audio is really coming up in the world), full line level audio including mixer (prefer Yamaha) and tuner (also Yamaha), dual 8TB HGST He SAS HDDs, dual Samsung 850 Pro 2TB SSDs, Corsair Obsidian Case (note the SSDs have a mount built in BEHIND the MB), 100 GB BluRay DVD burner (plus RW BluRay DVDs), Samsung display(s), LSI SAS Controller card, external SAS bay w/ Seasonic PSU.

BTW, if you are actually insane enough to build this then I suggest you call Puget Systems in Auburn WA. Puget Systems will custom build the system to your specs and they will issue lifetime free labor on upgrades and warranty work.

It will cost you though.

If price is no issue, this one should perform pretty well. The hype is in Finnish, but the parts list should tell quite a lot. Built by orders only: http://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/92154/jimms-legen-king/jimm-s-legendary-king

36 slow cores?  That may be good for video editing and such but will be a lot of wasted CPU for things that are looking for the fastest single thread performance to run well.   ;)
