There is really no incentive to fly anything other than Late War monsters. If HTC revamped the ENY scale to 100, the large perk point bonuses might help to encourage players to get out of their comfort zone for a few minutes.
For once, we agree. I've always flown the P-51 because it's what I consider the best and most versatile fighter aircraft to come out of WW2. (not looking for the inevitable argument here, just a fact). Early on, I tried to get time in every aircraft. As time progressed, I did tours of "a kill in every aircraft" or just Attack, or whatever. Thing is, after a good long while I became bored with the relentless hamster cage of being picked, or tag-teamed... every-freeking-time. It just really got old. So, these days I do what I do, and I don't get disappointed much. I don't fly in an extremely cautious manner at altitude because it's the mostest bestust funnest. Realistic simulation has a lot to do with it. But, I also do it because being picked & gang-tarded is NOT fun in a major way. Especially when you've earned a couple of kills and some trash talking cherry picker zooms in, kills you then brags about their unique badassery. Further, I also get a bit of a warm-fuzzy knowing I am spending my time denying those same pickers their opportunity to operate freely. Why, just last night I ran into a P-38 WAY down around 20k who immediately turned around and ran straight back home as soon as it was in icon range. Kudo's to that pair of Pony's though, they never quite managed to get over me but, at least they tried.
IMHO, HTC ought to wipe all perks, then set up a perk system in which ALL late war monsters get their fair share of "Gotta-earn-it", in such a way that it sticks. For example, the Pony ~IS~ a problem given the historical stats. IMO it's not perked because of the potential cry-baby response. And this routine of saving up 20K friggin perks! That promotes some of the lamest bs in the game. Obviously, we're dealing with the insta-gratification mindset and, well a whole segment of the AH population would likely suffer a simultaneous aneurysm if ~earning~ anything actually became standard.
I don't believe there's an easy answer. Maybe they could just start charging.... like, "For only $20 you get a PonyD and 10 rides in it a tour". How fun would THAT be??? Shootin down someones hard earned cash! Oh, the glory!
