Rank and Score
« on: July 28, 2016, 05:13:47 AM »
I have always believed that it would be beneficial to gameplay if AcesHigh were to hide from players their rankings until the tour is over. Only showing their overall rank for players to know if they can have CV control over another player. Also that scores could only be accessed through signing into their account online through the webpage only showing previous tours and not in the game, preventing the live updates we get.

A portion of players are so obsessed with their score and rank that it is detrimental to gameplay (ie avoiding combat, running and staying in large groups of friendlies), when it comes to increasing player numbers you cant beat better gameplay. Hiding rank would allow these score obsessed players to relax, take some risks and commit to combat.

Take score away from ingame and instant access and you have players being "scored" by the reputation they build by flying and fighting the community and not numbers and statistics. Currently this is how it is with Bomber pilots, (not scored on fighter kills) one example, I'm sure every bomber interceptor knows the name 999000. A bomber pilot that makes interceptors shudder at the sight of a set of B17s and his name on the roster. There are other bomber pilots worth mentioning in the same light as 999 but I wont need to as anyone reading will already have their names engraved in their minds.

That's my wish.

I feel like them not knowing their stats would just make them more timid....at least when they are having a good tour with the current system they might "relax" a bit and get more aggressive.

I think any sortie where a ground target is not destroyed and no ord is brought should be switched to fighter mode instead of attack......can't fly a N1K or Temp 10-15 times in fighter mode at easy fights to get good marks then fly them in attack the rest of the tour to maintain a high fighter score IMO.(my issue with the current rank system)

There is no valid reason to prevent a player from knowing their score or rank.  It's not going to change how people fly or play the game.

those of us who dont care about score  dont even bother to look at the score page to begin with.  would just love to hear how looking at my score or not looking at my score would make me change how I fly my pony.  I still auger a really good percentage of my flights and I end up in the top 99%.  I would end up in the top 100% but some dweebs only play in fso's

I am about to agree with Dolby.....well almost <phew  was about to have to auger in life knowing I would agree with Dolby>

I used to check score all the time.  It was an important aspect of my game.  My focus was on K/D.  Nothing else really mattered.  Truth is, my K/D never changed much if I was being careful or reckless.

I have changed my mindset - I prefer the fight now.  I actually have not checked my K/D but I would lay bets it is the same.

Therefore, I agree with Dolby - partially - rather than turn scores off have them be persistent.  Make the stats 'career' based.  Give a military rank if you must for points scored or level of achievements reached but leave the base stats as a career thing.

They will level out.  Those who live for the pure K/D ratio will fly the way they fly, those who do not care will still not care.  But, the 80% in the middle (80/20 rule) will quickly lose sight / focus on score and get back to enjoying the fight knowing that promotion to the next rank will happen in time.

Well that was easy, let's all go to the pub and celebrate :)

Air Warrior had a score/rank system, though only the score was seen by players, not their rank.  Hiding the ranks from players (only AWARs could see a player's rank) didn't change how people flew.

Dolby I see your point but Ack-Ack is right on this one.   It is like a good, restaurant, menu in the MA, everyone chooses what they like.

I do agree that dropping the score and star rating in the game rooster might have some effect.  I also wander if channel 200 makes some players timid in fear of being chastised for all to see.

I do look at my score but it has zero influence on my game play.

I guess porking enough trains and road convoys is enough to not want to play anymore.
