Which DX version of AH III to run?
« on: September 10, 2016, 02:50:16 PM »
I started running beta with the DX9 version but with III out I had been running DX11 version.
I tried running a DX 11 benchmark and it responded with a message:
"3DMark 11 has found DirectX 11 system files, but your graphics adapter reports that it supports only Direct X 10_1.

3DMark 11 requires both DirectX 11 system files and DirectX 11 capable hardware to run. If you are certain that you have DirectX 11 hardware present, there may be a problem with your video drivers. See 3DMark 11 FAQ for more information."

It got me a wondering. Should I run the DX11 version or DX9?
ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series

The HD 3800 series only supports DirectX 10 as the highest version, so logically the DX9 game should be the better alternative for you.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

How do the 2 versions compare in visual quality and framerate?

DX11 uses more advanced techniques for transform and lighting or whatever it's currently called. Basically it means that you'd get fancier graphics at the same frame rate or similar graphics at a higher frame rate. The math isn't that straightforward, though, there's other variables to take into account. In any case, AH3 looks better than AH2 no matter how low you have to cut your settings.

Initial impression from a flight or three it seems my FR is up, DX11 35-44ish , DX9 mid 50s.
Didn't notice the explosions or graphics much, I think it might be a bit better in DX11 but again so far just a guess.

I would go with the higher framerate.

The DX11 version of Aces High III uses shaders which are compatible with video cards supporting DX10 and later.

I've played both versions.  I took a screen shot from each, looking at the same terrain.  There is a difference, but it's not like it's DX9 bad vs DX11 good.  It's more like comparing the same model car with different engines.

Can't post a pic but it's in this thread, my vehicle is a 1994 Plymouth Voyager SE  so vehicle comparisons might be the wrong avenue for a message

I'll probably use both,
DX 9 for a fast frame rate and I want to  :airplane:   :joystick:
and DX11 with  and I want the few bells and whistles I can see and hear.   :O :old:

Also if you want VR you need DX11.

Dxdiag says I have directX 11. AH3-9 Runs AH3-11 crashes when you select offline or online.

Usually means either the video card driver does not support DX11, or the video card itself is not DX11 capable.
