The texture settings only shows when you are looking at things very close. Simple example is the side of a plane. If you are using 1k textures the you would need to be looking at the plane closer then the the length of the fuse covering your 4k monitor.  as soon as the fuse covers 1/4 of your screen you will then be magnifying the texture and loosing some detail, farther away there will be no difference between 1k or 4 k textures.

HiTech
I'm fairly computer illiterate. Is there not any point to picking the 4096 (?) setting on the main screen if you don't have a 4k monitor? Would I not notice a graphical difference yet get better frame rates or maybe be able to turn tree detail up (it's the only thing I don't have maxed with a 980m) if I turn it down too the 2000-something level?

Thanks.

I chose 4k just as an example. As soon as you are looking closer at a texture than 1/2 the texture on a 1920 monitor you will loose detail if less then a 4k texture. Think of zooming into a normal 2d photograph.

CPU - Corei7 - 3.5 ghz - quad
RAM - 16 GB
Vid - GeForce GTX 770 with 4 GB on board RAM
Windows 7

Resolution - max - 4096 (probably not supported by my monitor -- should change to 1024 -- just saw HiTech's post -- not sure about this), FOV 106, Environmental slider = 0, reflections off, disable shadows, disable post lighting (enable all the check boxes under post lighting), sliders set to max detail except trees which are middle of the spectrum.

I'm maxing out my frame rates for my monitor (60) no matter what the situation - at altitude, low, furball, bombing run, dive bombing, CVs etc.  For me, the biggest deal was the environmental slider.  Anything other than 0 gives me a frame rate hit (last time I checked).  I'm loving the game!  My only issue so far is now and again, the game collapses to desk top as if I hit Alt-Tab.  I have no clue.  One thing did drive me crazy.  I was up and getting frame rates in the teens and 20s.  After using my extensive vocabulary, I found out my virus scanner decided to run a PC scan while I was playing the game.  Duh!

FBScud don't confuse 4k textures with a 4k monitor. You can keep using 4k textures.

Thx FLS.  I didn't fully understand HiTech's explanation, but flying at a rock solid 60 FR suggests things aren't broken at my current settings.  I'll repeat, I think AH III rocks.  My system is about 2.5 years old now, but I built it knowing the game would be upgraded before I was ready to get another PC or do major upgrades.  LOL -- I fought with my local shop to get an increased power supply and the 770 vid card.  "No game requires that type of system today."  Me:  "My favorite [only] game will fairly soon.  Put it in."  I was right.

For FBSCUD

I have the same problem.   When I fly AH3 using the  Dx11 option, when I tab out or use the window key, which I do often, my AH3 will crash.  To fix this problem fly AH3 with the
Dx9 option.  It should fix the problem.  I'm guessing its a bug that will be fixed in the future.  I agree,  AH3 is fantastic.   :airplane:

Have tried everything I can think of to duplicate this, I have not been able to duplicate it to find out what the issue is.

For me (same problem) AH is running - somehow - if you bring up Task Manager.  But AH no longer shows as a program on the bar that runs across the bottom of the screen, nor can I Alt-Tab back to it.  One of the helpful AHers said that I can terminate AH in Task Manager, and then restart it, and that is true.

And yes, Windows 10.

I have win10.  My basic system:
lenovo desktop 1 year old
I5
8 gig system ram
nvidia gt 730 2 gig ram that came with the pc when I purchased it from best buy

When I start AH3 with the Dx11 option, then I tab out, hit window key, there is no way to get back into the game. My task manager shows its running but the lil icon at the bottom of my screen i have setup, i keep on clicking it on but cant get back into the game.  Sorry I forgot the name of the area at the very bottom of my win10 screen.  It shows all the apps i have running and it has an underline under it.  However the AH3 dx11 is NOT underlined like it should be. Nothing I do allows me back into my AH3 which is running in the background.  The only way I can get back into AH3 is to open my task manager then END TASK my AH3  then restart AH3.

When I use the AH3 Dx9 option,  there is NO problem when I hit Window button on keyboard or tab out. I just click on the AH3 icon at bottom of my screen Which has the AH3 icon with an underline under it which indicates its a running app on my pc.  So as of now I only fly AH3 with Dx9 option. Many others have said the same thing while flying in AH3.  It crashes and/or they can not get back in after they have tabed out or used window key so Ive told them to use the Dx9 option.   Currently this seems to be a very common problem.  Personally I am concerned that plenty of AHers dont realize this can be temporably fixed by using the Dx9 option.  They might get discouraged since many of us tab out often while in AH3.  I hope this can be fixed.
