Complete freeze-up

Up until today, my changeover to AH3 was marginally smooth. I downloaded the game to my laptop, ran a monitor for extra screen size, and was able to eke out about 30 fps. Not great, but usable. A new Windows 10 update apparently came in today of which I had no choice in the matter. Now once I enter the arena, the computer completely locks up. I get a frame rate of 0 upon entering the arena. I can't even exit the game without shutting down the laptop-no input is accepted from the keyboard or the mouse. The opening screens work normally, with a frame rate of 60 at that point, but once in the game I'm totally done. Can anyone render assistance?

Did you try the DX9 version of the game? Or does this happen with both DX9 and DX11?

A DXDIAG output might help.

I have this exact problem myself after the last patch from Aces High.  Before that I had no issue and running 60+ fps.  Now I have the lockup that is described here every time I start the game up and get into the tower to start playing.   I have not been able to play at all since the patch.  I have included my Dxdiag file.  However I do not have this issue with any other games I am currently playing but it is 100% repeatable since the last patch here.

Click on start and enter dxdiag in the search box that will take you there it's pretty self explanatory after that.
You'll be getting a very large .txt file far to large to post as text so just attach it.

Are you trying to use SLI?  I noticed two NVidia cards in your DXDIAG.


OK...after a few tests, I have learned that I only have this issue when I plug in the exterior monitor (but I didn't have this problem 2 days ago).

Probably more to do with the Intel sound driver than anything else.  That driver is used when you connect the HDMI port to a monitor so it can deliver sound through the monitor speakers.  The sound devices in Windows may reconfigure but the game will still try and use the original configuration.  It could/might cause what appear to be lockups, when in fact Windows is waiting for an interrupt from a sound device it will never get.

I believe my issues with running the DX 11 version have to do with the fact that I'm using the Nvidia HD audio drivers thru the card how do we resolve these issues if we want HDMI sound?

I did check the installed HD drivers and they are the most current so I downloaded the "driver" extracted all the folders and reinstalled the hd driver from the folder and still the exact same issue.

I guess my question is, since it's something to do with the drivers what can we do other insure that we are using the latest drivers for HDMI?

Yea can I fix this?

So how do I fix/correct that?

There are two basic types of lockup.

1)  The entire computer hangs requiring a hard reset.  If you cannot bring up the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), then there is a good chance this is a hard lockup.  This type of lockup is normally associated with power and/or heat related issues with the hardware.
Speaking of power.  Make sure all power management is disabled.  Windows has a nasty habit of shutting down power to hardware needed for a game.  All versions of Windows has some type of power management issue.

2)  The game hangs.  If you can get to the Windows Task Manager, but the game does not appear to be running anymore (no sounds, no screen changes, no keyboard commands appear to function...), then kill the executable (aceshigh9.exe or aceshigh11.exe).  Once dead, check for a Windows crash dialog.
We need the information from that dialog.  In particular, the faulting module and the offset address (expand details).
A variation of #2 occurs when sounds appear to loop constantly and there is no crash dialog after you kill the game.  This is usually (not always) a driver and/or resource conflict of some type. In this case a DXDIAG output might prove helpful.

As to the Intel sound driver.  We are going to have to try and see if we can duplicate this using that driver.

My HDMI sound drivers are Nvidia as far as I know. I was told that the graphics card was handling the sound, this may be wrong.

Yea that's the issue I am getting the sound thru the TV/monitor to the other analog amp so I could switch between TV/football and PC lol.
I'll just give up on HDMI for now and test DX 11 without and see how it goes if no crash I'm changing my audio routing.
If I had lot's of money I'd just buy the proper setup.

I would be very curious to know if the lockup issues went away once you dumped the HDMI connection and disabled those drivers (very important step).
